Brentford B will battle Queens Park Ragers Under-21s in Thursday's Premier League Cup final at Loftus Road (7pm kick-off BST), the first of three finals for the young Bees this season.

Head coach Neil MacFarlane credited the work of his players and staff across the campaign and highlighted the importance of preparing well after a tough Professional Development League play-off semi-final win on Monday.

"All the credit to the players and the staff working together relentlessly through the course of nine months. To make three finals in one season is no easy feat, we've navigated three semi-finals which is also another great experience for this group of players," said MacFarlane.

"Now they get to sample three finals, starting with Thursday, another outstanding game for us against a really good team.

"Thursday's another really amazing occasion to look forward to and another experience for the boys. I know what I've got in the dressing room and to a man they have been absolutely magnificent.

"We need to prepare properly like we always do and get ready to go again with the same mindset that we want to perform and come out on top."

Brentford's full allocation of tickets has now sold out, with over 1,200 fans set to support the squad from the away end.

Brentford fans will be located in the Achilleus Security Lower Stand, with all available blocks now fully taken.

A limited number of tickets will be available on Thursday night from the QPR Box Office on a first come, first served basis.

Any Brentford supporters who booked in Blocks A or B of the Bhatia Stand and have not yet been contacted about relocation should email [email protected] for assistance.

Last time out

Earlier this week the young Bees fought out a gritty 2-1 PDL play-off semi-final win over Sheffield United away from home.

Benjamin Fredrick and Iwan Morgan found the back of the net, setting up a national final clash with Bournemouth.

Previously in the PL Cup, Brentford secured their place in the final with an impressive 2-0 win over Southampton at St Mary's. Morgan again found the back of the net, Caelan Avenell adding another to ensure the win.

Previously against QPR the young Bees cruised to a 5-1 win in league action away from home. Morgan scored a brace, Gustavo Nunes, Max Dickov and an own goal helping the side to an impressive scoreline.

From the camp

Tony Yogane was part of the Brentford B squad that won the PL Cup against Blackburn Rovers in 2022/23, though he didn’t feature on the pitch that day.

“I was an unused sub in that final,” he recalled. “It was still a special night and a big moment for the team, but this time it feels even more personal. I want to be out there, contributing and helping the boys get over the line. With it being a London derby, away from home, it just adds that bit of extra to the game."

Despite the intensity of the fixture, Yogane is urging his team-mates to keep the same mindset that has brought them success all season.

“We’ve got to play with freedom and a clear mind,” he said. “That’s been our strength all year - trusting our game, staying composed and not letting the occasion change who we are. We’ve earned the right to be in this final by playing a certain way and that’s what we have to stick to.”

The 2024/25 season has also been a major step forward in Yogane’s individual journey. The young winger spent a key stretch of the campaign on loan at Exeter City in League One, making 18 appearances and recording two assists - his first experience in the Football League.

“It was a tough experience, no doubt,” he said. “The level is high, the games come fast and you really have to be switched on. But I’ve got no regrets. It challenged me, made me grow and I learned a lot about what it takes to succeed at that level. I’m hungry to go back out and have another crack at it.”

Now back in Brentford colours, Yogane is hoping to help his team finish a strong season with silverware.

“There’s a real buzz in the group,” he added. “We’ve worked hard to get here and we know how good we can be. These are the kind of games that stay with you and we want to make it one to remember for the right reasons.”

About QPR U21s

QPR have enjoyed a stellar run to the PL Cup final. They topped Group E with three wins, a draw and two losses, the highlight a 7-1 smashing of Preston to open their campaign.

Leicester was up next, QPR prevailing 2-0 in the Round of 16. Drawn away in the quarter-final to West Bromwich Albion, the young Hoops prevailed 3-2.

That set up a semi-final clash with Burnley at home, QPR proving too strong and winning 2-0.

It was a different story in the league for QPR this season, the side finishing 10th in the south group table with eight wins, four draws and 19 losses.
