Benjamin Fredrick, a superb one-on-one Nigerian defender who can play anywhere across the right side of the defence, joined Brentford B after making his mark in his home country and on the international stage.
Fredrick’s excellent form across the 2024/25 campaign saw him voted by his teammates as the Under-21s Players’ Player of the Year.
In a season in which he played a vital role in the B team’s Professional Development League title win, Benjamin made 34 appearances for Neil MacFarlane’s side. He scored in the play-off semi-final win against Sheffield United and displayed impressive stats across the board. Most notably, he won 73% of his offensive duels and 67% of his defensive duels, as well as recording 8.49 ball recoveries per game (all the highest in the B team).
These performances saw him selected for the Nigerian team for the 2025 Unity Cup at Gtech Community Stadium. Fredrick made his Super Eagles debut in the final against Jamaica, performing superbly in a 2-2 draw which Nigeria eventually won on penalties to lift the cup.
Benjamin had previously made 11 appearances for Nigeria at the U20 level, making his debut at just 17 years old. He has represented Nigeria in the U20 World Cup in the summer of 2023 and featured prominently in the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2023, playing six times as Nigeria secured a third-place finish in the tournament. His recent debut and performances in both youth competitions have cemented his reputation as a rising star in Nigerian football.
His teammates describe him as a fast and strong 1v1 defender with a powerful heading ability, making him a key part of Brentford’s defence.
