Toumani Diagouraga said Brentford’s players were confident they could beat Sheffield United.
The Yorkshire side started the day second in npower League One but Clayton Donaldson and Harry Forrester scored first half goals as Brentford won 2-0.
Toumani, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said it was important to beat a team that would challenge for promotion.
“It was a very good win against a team that will be up there at the end of the season,” he said.
“To take three points off them is a very good result.
“We knew it would be a hard game but we have been doing well lately.
“We were confident we could get a win.
“We are on a good run, we are all buzzing.”
Toumani played a key role in the first goal.
He latched on to a Rob Kiernan pass and squared for Clayton Donaldson to score.
Toumani said it was something Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler had been working on in training.
“The gaffer told us in the week that when we get wide to cross the ball early,” said Toumani.
“Also to get it low, along the floor.
“I knew what I wanted to do.
“I wanted to put it in hard and low.
“Clayton has been on fire lately, we know if he gets a chance it will hit the back of the net.
“It is important to score when you are on top, we wanted a second goal.
“We knew there would be a spell when we would be under pressure.
“But we have shown we can dig in and grind out a result.”
Brentford went in to the game without key central midfield player Jonathan Douglas, who was suspended.
Toumani became the most experienced member of Brentford’s midfield and said he knew he had to shoulder that responsibility.
He praised those around him for the work they did.
“Since Jonathan Douglas has been here, he has been a leader on and off the pitch,” said Toumani.
“To not have him today was a blow but everyone had to lift their game.
“We have good players; they have come in and done well.
“I felt responsibility as I was one of the oldest in midfield but everyone did well.
“We are delighted.”
Toumani said the sky was the limit for this Brentford team.
He said their current unbeaten run and a week that had seen them draw 1-1 at Preston North End and beat Swindon Town 1-0 in Wiltshire before the win over United had shown how good they were.
“This team is very good,” he continued.
“It’s the best I have played in since I have been at Brentford.
“It doesn’t get any better than the last week in this league, seven points out of nine is brilliant.
“We are eight games unbeaten; we need to keep it going.
“We can achieve anything, we have to go and grab it.”
