Harry Forrester said Brentford’s players would have “bitten your hand off” if they had been offered seven points from their past three games.
The Bees have faced Preston North End and Swindon Town away from home as well as Sheffield United at Griffin Park in the space of seven days.
They followed up a draw at Preston and win at Swindon by beating Sheffield United 2-0.
Harry said Brentford’s players were “chuffed” with that tally but now had to look ahead to facing fellow promotion-chasers Milton Keynes Dons soon and cup ties against Bradford City and Southend United.
“I think we would have bitten your hand off if you offered seven points from these three games,” said Harry.
“We had a hard three games.
“We have seven points and are chuffed.
“But it’s not over, we have MK Dons soon, two cup ties, it’s a good time to be at Brentford.
“We know if we play as well as we can we can beat anyone, we have good players and a good management team.
“Team spirit is fantastic and we are all genuinely optimistic about what we can achieve.”
Brentford dominated the first half against Sheffield United and went 2-0 up.
Clayton Donaldson scored the first before Harry smashed in a second goal.
He said it was important to score first and going ahead gave The Bees a boost.
Sheffield United started the day second in npower League One but dropped to fourth after the match, just one point and one place ahead of The Bees.
“This is a great win,” said Harry.
“It is also an important one.
“We wanted to close the gap on them and we are now one point behind.
“We have performed very well today.
“We have had a tough week.
“We knew this was a big week and we have come out happy.
“We played very well.
“We had a game plan, we restricted them and we thought once we could play we would hurt them.
“To get the goal so early gave us a chance to kick on, get another and get a win.
“We felt if they scored first, they would have made it very difficult for us to break them down.
“Getting the early goal, making them open up, we felt we would get a second goal.
“If they score and park the bus it would be difficult.
“Everyone was buzzing once we got ahead.
“We have played games this year where we have only scored one and it has come back to bite us in the closing minutes.
“The second gave us a cushion.”
Harry’s goal came when he picked up a Tony Craig pass, turned away from two men and smashed in a shot from 25 yards.
He played down the strike and lavished praise on his team mates, particularly goalkeeper Simon Moore who was in inspired form in the second half.
“I just turned and saw space,” said Harry, describing his goal.
“I moved in to the space and hit it.
“Luckily it went in.
“It was nice strike but all the boys played well.
“Simon Moore was terrific
“We knew they would have spells.
“We had to stand up and be counted and make sure we did not concede.
“Simon made four or five brilliant saves, he is a match winner.”
Harry is currently sporting a moustache as the Brentford players take part in the Movember find-raising drive.
Every player in the Brentford squad is growing facial hair to raise awareness of male cancer and money to fight the disease.
“It has taken me 24 days to grow this,” he said.
“It’s going alright and before I know it, it will be off.
“I think we should keep them, we are doing so well with them.
“We might have to keep them.”
