Stuart Dallas said he thought Brentford were “worthy winners” of their Sky Bet Championship match against Rotherham United.
The Northern Ireland international scored the only goal as The Bees won 1-0 at Griffin Park on Saturday.
The win came on the back of three straight defeats and Stuart, speaking after the match, said the victory was the most important thing.
“It’s a great feeling to score the winner,” he said.
“But it is not about me, the main thing was to get three points on the back of three disappointing results.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game and we are thankful to get the points.
“We knew they would come here and give us a physical test; I think the boys stood up very well.
“There are no easy games but we played well and I think we were worthy winners.”
Rotherham might have had slightly the better of the first half and had chances to take the lead but squandered them.
Stuart said Brentford accepted the opposition would have sights of goal because of the way they played and hailed David Button for a superb late save that ensured his side got the win.
The Northern Irishman said Brentford upped the tempo in the second half and got their goal.
“They had a few chances in the first half but that is going to happen with the way we play,” said Stuart.
“We are so open going forward.
“We have to take our chances and if the second one goes in we can push on.
“But for David Button at the end we would be standing here with a different result.
“We knew at half time if we moved the ball quicker we would get chances.
“From the first minute of the second half we went at them.
“We knew if we upped the tempo we would get the goal.”
Stuart’s goal came just before the hour mark.
After a move down the left, Jota met a Jake Bidwell cross on the volley, the effort was blocked and Stuart smashed home the rebound.
“I always forget my goals,” said Stuart.
“The ball fell to Jota and his shot was blocked.
“It came to me and I only had one thing on my mind.
“I hit in and thankfully it went in.
“You always want to score goals but it doesn’t matter who scores.”
Stuart has only made two starts since picking up an injury in September, albeit he has scored two goals coming on as a substitute.
“You have to be ready and take your chance when it comes,” he said.
“I was pleased to get a start today.
“I don’t think I had my best game but you have to do what you can.
“Thankfully I was able to get a goal.”
