Brentford’s Development Squad were trailing 2-0 in farcical conditions when their friendly against Maidenhead United was abandoned.
The game started in heavy rain and conditions did not relent.
When Maidenhead scored their second goal after the ball stopped in a puddle it was decided to call the game off.
Rain had fallen throughout the afternoon and in to the evening in Berkshire and the pitch looked heavy before kick-off.
When it got heavier midway through the first half the ball started to hold up and it looked as if the game would cease at half time.
The teams attempted to carry on after the break but eventually the conditions won.
Brentford had produced a decent performance in the 54 minutes that were possible but conceded two poor goals.
The first was headed in from close range, the Maidenhead attacker rising to nod in a free kick unmarked six-yards out.
The second, the last action of the match, came when Daniel O’Shaughnessy was outpaced in the left back area, the cross was turned goal wards and beat Richard Lee but was heading wide before it stuck in a puddle and was poked home.
Although they ended up losing the match, what there was of it, 2-0, Brentford will feel they did enough to win.
They should have been ahead before Maidenhead scored their first and had chances to level before the end.
Jermaine Udumaga forced the Maidenhead goalkeeper in to a low save and Montell Moore shot narrowly wide before firing a free kick over.
Nico Yennaris darted forward from right back and went round the goalkeeper only to be crowded out and Moore got in behind and lifted the ball past the home stopper only to watch it drift wide.
Paris Bateman forced another good save and a Moore effort was blocked before Maidenhead’s goal.
Bateman saw a shot blocked afterwards and Louis Hutton blazed over from 15 yards after good work by O’Shaughnessy.
Seconds later Maidenhead had scored their second and the officials had decided enough was enough.
