New loan striker Jimmy Spencer said his first reaction to news of an approach from Brentford was that it was “brilliant”.
Jimmy joined The Bees from Huddersfield Town yesterday and will initially stay at Griffin Park until November 21.
The striker had previously been on loan at Morecambe and Cheltenham Town in League Two and said he was looking forward to the new challenge.
“I heard on Friday or Saturday,” explained Jimmy. “My agent told me that Brentford were interested and my first impression was that it was brilliant news.
“Brentford are a top club in League One.
“I am here to get game time and score goals.
“This is the next step.
“I made a decision that I did not want to go back to League Two.
“I needed a new challenge.
“League One was the next step, Brentford came along and I was happy to join.”
Jimmy said League Two had provided a physical challenge and he now wanted to more technical one.
The striker trained with The Bees on Tuesday and said he was welcomed by his new team mates.
He added the opportunity to work with Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler, a former Premier League striker, was a big draw.
“Brentford are a very good side, a good footballing side,” said Jimmy, speaking exclusively to Bees Player.
“I am looking forward to playing.
“League Two was very physical.
“That has helped me a lot.
“Now I’m used to that I want to play in a league that’s more about football.
“The lads have been great, they have welcomed me,
“The training is very technical and the gaffer knows what he is doing.
“Uwe was a striker; he knows the ins and outs of that.
“He has helped me a lot already; I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Jimmy described himself as a hard-working player and said his main focus was to score goals.
“I need game time,” said the striker.
“I am looking forward to the challenge.
“I needed a League One club.
“Brentford are near the top of this league and I thought this was the best chance.
“I am a player that works hard.
“I hold the ball up and score goals; it’s all about what happens between the two white posts.”
