Jake Bidwell said Brentford had the chances to have won their Sky Bet Championship game against Sheffield Wednesday.
The Bees drew 0-0 with Wednesday at Griffin Park last night.
They started the game well but couldn’t score when they were on top and Jake, speaking after the match, said it was important to take those chances.
He admitted to being disappointed with the draw but said it was a sign of Brentford’s progress that a draw with a team like Sheffield Wednesday was seen in that way.
Jake added The Bees certainly shouldn’t see a point as a bad thing.
“We are a little bit disappointed,” he said.
“We had the chances to win the game but, on the other hand, it is another point on the board and it shows how far we have come to be disappointed to draw with an established Championship team like Sheffield Wednesday.
“We wanted to get out quickly, like we want to every game.
“We managed to start well but it is important to score when we are on top.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t do that today but it is another point, it is not the end of the world.”
After Brentford’s bright start, during which they had a goal ruled out for offside, Wednesday came back in to it.
They dominated the later stages of the first period and hit the post but Brentford weathered the storm.
The Bees had slightly the better of the second half but couldn’t find a way through.
Jake said a team as good as Wednesday were always likely to have chances but Brentford can be pleased with the way they got through it.
“When you are involved it can be difficult sometimes to analyse what is going on,” said the left back.
“They are a decent team.
“A team like that will always have a spell.
“It is important we score when we are on top and also that we don’t concede when we are under a bit of pressure.
“We managed to keep the back door shut.
“It would have been nice to get a goal.
“We showed our fighting qualities as well as our football abilities.
“The manager wanted us to start the second half as we started the first.
“We wanted to pass the ball quickly, out them under pressure
“We managed to do that, all that was missing was a goal.”
The 0-0 draw was Brentford’s second in three days, after one against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
It also came after a change in defence, Harlee Dean stepping in to replace the suspended James Tarkowski.
“The clean sheets give us something to build on,” said Jake.
“But we have not scored in two games either.
“We will be looking to put that right on Saturday.
“We have a good foundation and a positive going in to Saturday.
“Harlee has had to wait for his chance and a clean sheet will do no harm.”
Brentford are next in action on Saturday, October 25, when they travel to Bolton Wanderers.
Jake said he hoped the fans would travel in similar numbers as they did to Wigan, when more than 1,150 made the journey, and he wanted to give them goals.
“Everything from now is geared towards Saturday,” he said.
“It is a fair old journey.
“It would be good to get a good support like we did on Saturday.
“The plan would be for the third clean sheet in a week and if we could add a couple of goals it would round off a good week.”
