Development Squad midfielder Jermaine Udamaga felt his side were worth the three points following their draw with Birmingham City on Monday at Wast Hills.
Luke Armstrong gave the hosts the lead on the half-hour as Blues capitalised on a sloppy pass from Nico Yennaris.
The Bees levelled things just after half-time through Tommy Smith and had a number of chances to win the game.
Speaking to Bees Player after the game Jermaine was pleased with his side’s performance and felt they dominated the game.
However he was disappointed with the mistake that led to the hosts goal and said he and his teammates need to cut those mistakes out moving forward.
“We are quite happy with the performance but we feel we should have won,” said Jermaine.
“We got into the box quite a few times but things haven’t been going our way recently.
“Today we stepped up and played well.
“We could have won the game but it is just one of those things.
“However coming away from here with a draw is something we can build on.
“We played better than them and should have won the game and hopefully next week against Crystal Palace we can do even better.
“In the first-half we were all over them.
“They scored their goal from a mistake of ours.
“When you get to first-team football they will punish you even more so we will have to make even less mistakes.
“We will have to work hard in training in order to make less mistakes.
“I think we got behind them quite well but it was a shame that we couldn’t finish our chances.
“If we can keep doing that it is going to come together.
“At half-time Jon told us to keep creating chances and that we have to score them.
“When you get a chance you have to punish the opposition because if you don’t, as we saw in the first-half, they will punish you.”
Jermaine was played in a more advanced role on Monday in behind the lone striker Bradley Clayton.
The former Oxford United player came close to putting The Bees in front shortly after Smith’s equaliser but was denied by Callum Preston.
Jermaine opened his scoring account for the Development Squad in the defeat against Crewe Alexandra but has gone five games without a goal since.
Jermaine knows he needs to keep working hard in training to make sure that his rewards in terms of goals.
“I have to keep working on my shooting in training and hopefully it will come off for me,” said Jermaine.
“I see myself as more of an attacking player.
“I don’t think I am a player who is going to play sideways and backwards.
“I want to score goals and get assists.
“I have set myself a target of a certain number of goals and assists and obviously I want to get closer to the first-team.”
Next up for the Development Squad is a trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace on Tuesday.
Last year Palace won 6-0 thanks to five goals from Dwight Gayle and a Paddy McCarthy header.
Jermaine is looking forward to testing himself against Palace next week especially if, like last year, Palace include a number of Premier League first-team players.
“Crystal Palace will probably have a few first-team players so hopefully we can go there and get a good result,” said Jermaine.
“It is a good challenge to play against first-team players because we want to become better players.
“Playing against first-team players will only boost us up and it is good.”
Promotion to the Championship has brought a bigger first-team squad at Griffin Park meaning more first-team players looking for match time with the Development Squad.
Tommy Smith and Nico Yennaris were both involved in the draw with Birmingham City while Jon Toral, Toumani Diagouraga and Tony Craig have also featured this season.
Jermaine welcomes the additional competition for places and said it is pushing everybody harder in training.
“This year you have to work very hard to get into the team,” said Jermaine.
“You have to keep playing well.
“For me I have to keep scoring goals and making assists.
“Every club will have a few first-team players coming in and out of the team.
“When you are not in the team you have to work harder to get into the team.
“If you drop your head down and don’t get on with things you are only going to find yourself dropping further away from the team.”
