Tony Craig said it was important for Brentford to beat Oldham Athletic at Griffin Park.
The Bees picked up their third straight home win by beating the Greater Manchester side 1-0 and bounced back from losing 1-0 to Leyton Orient last Thursday and drawing 2-2 with AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday in the process.
Tony, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said Brentford hadn’t produced their best performance but it was good to get an “ugly” win.
“It was a very important win,” said Tony.
“After the disappointment, defensively, of Tuesday night it was a good clean sheet.
“We took control of the game after the start.
“We didn’t play as well as we could but sometimes it is nice to win ugly.
“We played really well against Leyton Orient for the whole game the other day and came away with nothing.
“To win like this is always a good thing.
“It shows the character in the squad.
“We created lots of chances, it’s a shame only one went in and we made hard work of it.
“In the end it was a good battle for the last ten minutes.
“They gave everything and it was a good game for a defender to play in.
“I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
Brentford dominated most of the match but had to withstand a late barrage from their visitors.
Oldham brought on striker Matt Smith and played the ball long in the final stages to try and earn a draw.
Tony said that sort of barrage was only to be expected and it was good to withstand it.
“You know teams will do it in the last ten minutes,” he said.
“Every team does it.
“It is part and parcel of this league.
“They went long and we dropped deep, maybe too deep.
“It was a good game and a good clean sheet.
“It’s important to get clean sheets, it breeds confidence.
“We have had three now.”
Tony said Brentford now had to build on the win and look to go on a run.
“The start of the season has been OK,” he said.
“I don’t think we’ve set the world alight but it’s a results business.
“Hopefully we can get more wins.
“We have a lot of games coming in short succession.
“We’ll enjoy our week off and look forward to Tranmere.”
