Paul Hayes said Brentford showed “character and determination” to come back to earn a point against Tranmere Rovers.
Jonathan Douglas struck five minutes in to stoppage time to earn The Bees a share of the spoils at Prenton Park.
Paul said Brentford’s game plan worked very well and they dominated the first hour before conceding a goal against the run of play.
But they earned a point against the npower League One leaders late on, the third game they have scored in the dying stages to win points already this season.
“With the way the game has gone, to score in the last minute, to draw away from home, shows the character and determination in the team to fight back,” said Paul, speaking to Bees Player.
“I thought we shut them down, worked hard, created more chances than them.
“We have come here with a game plan and it has worked.
“They got a goal against the run of play.
“That’s frustrating but it happens.
“It shows the character and determination for where we want to go this year to get back.
“You hope for any free kick, throw, corner, set pieces are massive.
“Clayton got the long throw, we’ve flicked it on and Dougie has put it in.
“Any point could be crucial at the end of the season.
“We have won five points in the last minutes of games this season.
“We won’t give up.”
Paul played as a lone striker at Prenton Park with Ryan Fredericks and Harry Forrester on the flanks.
He said he thought it was a system that worked well.
“The gaffer asked me to play up front on my own with two wide players, one very quick, the other clever,” he explained.
“As a lone striker you have to bring people in to the game.
“The wide players had to get in to position and the midfield players have to run off me.
“I thought it went very well today.”
Brentford have home games against Shrewsbury Town and Crawley Town in the next seven days.
They have won three of their first at Griffin Park and were aiming to keep that good run going.
“You need to make your home ground a fortress,” said Paul.
“That’s key.
“I think we have done very well at home so far this season.
“We have played well and have points on the board.
“Tuesday will be tough.
“Shrewsbury will want to come and upset us.
“We have to be patient and get the win.”
