Speaking after the defeat to Colchester United in the Under 18 Professional Development League Two South on Saturday, Louis Lancaster was quick to praise his team's performance.
The Youth Team boss said that some hard questions about the team's improvement had been asked at training during the week but that they were answered by the performance if not the result against the league leaders.
"I was pleased with the performance. They are top of the league but for the most part of the game we were the team dominating," said Louis.
"I spoke to the lads straight after the game and told them that the performance was definitely better.
"We had a big question to ask this week about if we were actually improving because at Barnet we just weren't at the races but we have definitely shown improvement today.
"Defensively three is not our lucky number at the moment. The last 10 minutes to concede the way we did was disappointing. Again it was just a couple of mistakes which got punished."
The Youth Team twice led against Colchester and Louis was pleased not only with the possession of the ball but also with the quality of the two goals.
"Josh Stockwell's goal was a great goal, very well taken," said Louis.
"We had had a lot of play in out own half but it was the first time it had gone into their half. It was the first time we had really worked it well. He cut in between two players and then bent it round the keeper beautifully."
"Colchester played a very high line. We kept it at the back and if it was on to go forward we would, if it wasn't we would go back.
"I said to Stefan and Lionel if you can eliminate all the players and get it in behind we had Myles' pace up front and then with Courtney's pace in the second half it was the right ball to play.
"I said to Courtney before he came on that if he gets a chance just take it and that's what he did.
"He's pressed the keeper who's tried to take it round him and he's caught him and put it in at a crucial time with half an hour to go."
Goalkeeper Joe Taylor is in New Zealand currently with the New Zealand Under 17 set-up and will miss next Saturday's west London derby against QPR but Louis was pleased with how his deputy James Bransgrove did in his place.
Louis said: "I think James has pulled some great saves out he has kept us in the game.
"I said to the lads at half-time that we are coming in at a good position but we could be 3-0 down. He's done well all week in training and he's taken his chance today."
