Brentford B take on group leaders Exeter City Under-21s in the Premier League Cup on Monday 24 November at Wheatsheaf Park (7pm kick-off GMT).

The Bees will be looking to make it two wins in a row in the competition, in what is a vital game in Group E.

Ahead of their third fixture in the group, Ollie Shield reflected on the PL Cup opener away at St James Park, when the west Londoners fell to a frustrating 1-0 defeat.

"We’re all excited, we’ve got a point to prove after the narrow loss against them last time," said Shield.

"We all know as a group and staff that we played the better football on the night but couldn’t get the win.

"We conceded to a set-piece, and we’ve worked hard on the pitch and performances have been top, so we’re looking forward to putting those wrongs right and trying to get the three points."

After reaching the final last year and lifting the trophy in the 2022/23 season, Shield and his team-mates are eager to write their own chapter in the competition.

"As a collective, we saw and felt that loss against QPR in the final last year and that alone gives us so much motivation," he explained.

"Seeing the club have so much success in the competition in the past, it makes you think, ‘Why can’t we go and do it?’ We can put ourselves in that bracket and make more history for the club."

Last time out in the PL Cup, Shield started and registered an assist in a 6-1 defeat of Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

"We had a couple of the first team boys drop down and they’re always going to bring quality and energy, but as a squad, the substitutes and the finishers that came on had a great impact," he said.

"At the end of the day, the squad is what wins the game. It’s so important that we’re a squad not just on matchdays but in the training weeks.

"We had the preparation right and we were ruthless that night, so we're looking to replicate that performance."

The Bees also face West Bromwich Albion Under-21s in the PL Cup on Friday 28 November.

Shield says that the message from head Coach Sam Saunders is clear: "Believe in our plan."

"If everyone is on the same page, we have no doubt that we can get the six points from the week," he continued.

"We all know what we are capable of as individuals, but then as a collective and as a team we have more than enough quality and energy to win both games."

Last Time Out

The Bees fell to a 3-2 defeat to AFC Bournemouth at Wheatsheaf Park last weekend in the Under-21s Professional Development League.

Iwan Morgan and Romelle Donovan both got on the scoresheet to come back from a 2-0 deficit, but a goal on 78 minutes won the game for the Cherries.

Most recently in the PL Cup, Saunders' side put six past Luton away from home.

Yunus Emre Konak scored the pick of the bunch with an outrageous overhead kick after flicking the ball up to himself.

Fábio Carvalho also scored a brace while Donovan, Myles Peart-Harris, and Paris Maghoma all got on the scoresheet in the comprehensive victory.

About Exeter City

The Grecians sit at the top of the Group E table, winning twice and drawing once in their opening three games.

Having beaten both Luton and Brentford 1-0 before a goalless draw with West Brom, Exeter are yet to concede in this year's competition.

The young Grecians are overseen by a coaching trio: assistant manager Kevin Nicholson, first-team coach David Perkins and individual player development phase coach Dan Green.

Last season, the side progressed unbeaten through the group stage to reach the knockout rounds, only to be eliminated by a 1-0 loss to Brentford.
