Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler said his team were made to pay for not taking their chances as they were beaten 3-0 by Yeovil Town.
Uwe said his team dominated the first 35 minutes but found themselves 2-0 down at half time in Somerset to a “clinical” Yeovil.
Home goalkeeper Marek Stech made at least four superb saves in the first half and at the other end Paddy Madden put Yeovil ahead when a clearance fell to him.
Ed Upson doubled the lead when he smashed in from nearly 30 yards and Dan Burn added a third late on.
Uwe said his team needed to score when they had the upper hand early on and the game was lost when Yeovil went two up.
“We were by far the better team for the first 35 minutes,” said the Brentford Manager, speaking after the final whistle.
“We made one mistake and they punished us.
“They had not had a chance until then.
“We had six or seven chances to go 1-0 up, it didn’t happen.
“With the second goal, in the last month we have had three or four goals against us go in to the top corner from long range shots.
“It’s very difficult to defend; it was a great individual bit of skill from a Yeovil player.
“We then sit there at half time 2-0 down.
“In conditions like this, it was very difficult to come back.
“The game was lost after the second goal.
“You have to score in your good periods.
“When you have clear cut chances like we did in the first 35 minutes, you have to take at least one of them.
“Today was a day when we did not use our chances, we paid the price.
“They were more clinical than us.
“In the second half Yeovil were defensively solid.
“We did not create enough in the second half and our set pieces were not good enough.
“That is why we did not come back in to the game.”
The game was played on a sodden playing surface at Huish Park.
The wet weather over the past few weeks meant it started wet and unsteady and cut up as the game went on.
Uwe said the conditions made it hard to chase the game but he picked a team based on the playing surface.
Yeovil have now beaten Sheffield United, Milton Keynes Dons and The Bees in their last three games and Uwe said Brentford needed to improve rather than blaming external factors.
“The longer the game went on the more the pitch cut up and it was difficult for us as a team that likes to play football to play,” he said.
“At times we did not use our heads enough.
“In the second half we had to try and get the ball in behind them, not play in certain areas.
“Yeovil got everyone behind the ball and hit us on the break in the second half.
“We put everybody forward so they looked dangerous.
“Yeovil were desperate to play the game.
“They beat MK Dons on Tuesday and now they have beaten us.
“I don’t think a Premier League game would have been played on that pitch.
“We had to cope with the conditions like Yeovil did.
“We will not make excuses; I put a team out to deal with the pitch.
“It was a team with height, directness and pace up front.
“We had enough chances.
“We have to look at ourselves not the referee or the pitch or Yeovil.
“If we do our bit better we will win games again.”
