Tyrell Miller-Rodney said Brentford’s Under-21 Professional Development Squad game against Ipswich Town was his type of match.
The Bees won 3-2 in Suffolk in a match played in a blizzard on a snow covered surface.
Charlie Adams put Brentford in front and Jack Uttridge restored the lead after Ipswich had equalised.
Luke Norris scored what proved to be the winner in the second half and a late Ipswich goal was mere consolation.
Tyrell said it was a day to grind out a win and do the dirty parts of the game well, which he loves.
“It was unusual,” said the midfield player, speaking to Bees Player.
“We don’t usually play in conditions like this.
“It was a new experience but I am the type of player that likes to get on with things regardless of conditions.
“Today wasn’t a game for passing it and popping it.
“We had to grind out three points, play to the conditions.
“The pitch wasn’t fantastic, the visibility wasn’t good.
“We had to make sure we did the dirty stuff, win the headers, win the tackles and get the points.
“That is my game.
“Not every player can make things happen.
“I like to win the ball and give it to the players more capable of making the decisive pass or run.”
Tyrell has only started five of Brentford’s games in the Under-21 Professional League Two South, two of which have been the last two matches against Brighton and Hove Albion and Ipswich.
He said he was happy to have found his role in the side.
“I was struggling to find my way before Christmas,” he said.
“There were First Team players playing and I am happy I have found my role.
“I can play in these games now and enforce my presence upon the team.
“I did feel like I wasn’t making a contribution before.
“I was happy when the team was winning but I wanted to play.
“I have to play regularly to enforce my style upon the team.”
The home side fielded striker Aaron McLean, who has scored regularly in The Championship for Peterborough United, Hull City and Ipswich, and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, formerly of Arsenal, in attack.
They also included First Team players Reece Brown and Joshua Carson.
Tyrell said he does not worry who he is playing against and just gets on with the job.
He said Brentford dealt well with the threat.
“I don’t look at the name on the back of the shirt,” he said.
“It could be Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard; I’ll still smash them to get the ball.
“That doesn’t faze me.
“We had a few lapses in concentration but generally we defended really well.
“The three centre backs were really solid, nothing troubled them.
“We were comfortable.
“Our aim was to compact the midfield and press then get it out wide.”
Manager Uwe Rösler has used Development Squad players in the First Team this year.
Charlie Adams made his debut against Carlisle United on Saturday while Aaron Pierre and Antonio German have played and Leon Redwood and Emmanuel Oyeleke have been in match day squads.
Tyrell said he knew there were opportunities for players in the Development Squad if they did well.
The team are currently second in the Professional Development League Two South table and challenging teams like Charlton Athletic, Brighton and Queens Park Rangers for honours.
Tyrell is in the second year of his scholarship at Brentford but qualifies for the Under-21 side because of his age.
He will end his scholarship in the summer and said he will hear soon if he will get a professional deal.

“The gaffer is watching and he is taking notes.
“The more matches we win the more we get recognised.
“There are opportunities for players here, provided we do well.
“Doing well in this competition puts us on the map.
“We play Championship and Premier League teams like Ipswich, Brighton, and QPR.
“I have to keep working hard, keep my head down, keep playing and doing well.
“It all starts from getting the pro contract.
“I want to get in the First Team and get my move to Barcelona.”
