Aaron Pierre said Brentford’s Development Squad were “very pleased” with their win over Ipswich Town.
The Bees won the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South clash 3-2 at Ipswich’s Training Centre.
The match was played in a blizzard and on a snow covered pitch and Brentford reacted better to the conditions.
Charlie Adams capitalised on a poor back pass to score the first and Jack Uttridge made it two after Ipswich failed to clear.
Luke Norris headed the winner from a Josh Clarke cross.
Aaron said it was the worst conditions he had played in but Brentford tried to make sure they did not make mistakes.
“We are very pleased to win, especially in these conditions,” said the defender, speaking to Bees Player.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, the wind was against us, it was good to get a win.
“These were the worst conditions I have played in – it was snowing and windy.
“You can’t see the ball to pass it.
“It was very hard.
“I couldn’t see the ball coming out of the air.
“There were times when we backed off, let them have the ball, dropped off and kept our shape.
“There are times when you can’t win the ball.
“We tried our best not to play in to midfield so much, we couldn’t see properly and the pitch didn’t really allow it, it was cutting up and they pressed.
“We tried to play in behind and battle for it.
“Luke Norris did very well, he kept the ball for us and Charlie Adams ran at them.
“In training we work to force teams in to mistakes, luckily we did it.”
Aaron said it was a test of his team’s mentality as well as their physical attributes.
He said the team knew they needed to do what it took to win.
“It was a mental test too, it was cold,” he continued.
“It was all about winning.
“It wasn’t about passing the ball, looking nice.
“We just had to battle.
“Win the headers, win the tackle, keep the shape and try to score.”
The home side fielded striker Aaron McLean, who has scored regularly in The Championship for Peterborough United, Hull City and Ipswich, and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, formerly of Arsenal, in attack.
Brentford limited them to few chances and McLean only got in behind once, when he scored to bring the game back to 3-2.
Aaron said he did not worry who he was playing against; he just tried to do his job.
“I pretend I don’t know who I am playing against,” he said.
“It is just a normal game.
“One was big and one was small, one was quick, one held the ball up.
“I play the man not the name, play your own game, do the basics well and battle.
“I’m not happy we gave them one chance but it was good it was only one.
“They got a goal so we need to stop that.”
Brentford climbed to second in the league with the win and take on leaders Charlton Athletic next week.
Aaron said The Bees were full of confidence but teams including Brighton and Hove Albion, Bristol City and Queens Park Rangers were also challenging at the top of the table.
Finishing in the top two would give Brentford a shot at winning the national competition.
Aaron has made his First team debut this year, like Charlie Adams, and said he feels he is getting better due to the games he was playing.
He said it was good that Manager Uwe Rösler trusted young players.
“We are full of confidence but other teams are winning too,” said Aaron.
“We need to keep our positive vibes and work hard.
“They are doing just as well as we are.
“Everyone is working hard and putting in a shift.
“Players are getting chances in the First Team.
“I feel I am better than last year.
“We have more games this year, because we are in a league.
“It’s a good feeling that the gaffer puts us in, he trusts us.”
