Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler said he was “very happy” with a share of the spoils against Shrewsbury Town.
The Bees extended their unbeaten run in npower League One to 11 games with a 0-0 draw in Shropshire on a wet and windy afternoon with a playing surface that had taken a large amount of rain in recent days.
Uwe, speaking after the match – Brentford’s second of three in six days, said it was a fair result in difficult conditions.
“I think a draw was a fair result,” he said.
“I am very happy with that point.
“At this time of the year it is all about getting points.
“There are lots of games.
“Conditions were difficult today but the pitch held up quite well for the amount of rain.
“I couldn’t ask for more.
“We had chances, they had chances.
“It is a fair point and an important point.”
Uwe explained he started the game with Rob Kiernan between the defence and midfield in order to deal with Shrewsbury’s long balls to striker Marvin Morgan.
The Brentford Manager said his team did not have enough going forward before half time, although Marcello Trotta came within a whisker of scoring in the early stages.
He said he went more attacking in the second half, bringing on Harry Forrester, Paul Hayes and Adam Forshaw, and both teams could have won the game but in the end it ended 0-0, like the first game between the teams.
“We started with a 4-1-4-1,” said Uwe.
“We knew they would be going long to Morgan and we wanted a screen in there.
“We had a massive early chance but did not have enough going forward overall in the first half.
“In the second half we played with two holding players and with Toumani Diagouraga more offensive minded.
“We started very well in the second half.
“I wanted to bring some fresh legs on after 15 to 20 minutes; we went for it with a second striker and changed to 4-4-2.
“We had good opportunities but they did too on the counter.
“Compliments to Shrewsbury, they played very well at our place and we drew.
“The teams were equal here and we drew again.
“I can live with that.”
Uwe said the draw showed Brentford can find different ways of getting results.
“I was happy with a point,” he said.
“In conditions like that there can be an element of luck.
“We coped well with the conditions.
“We fought well as a team.
“We went for it and had offensive substitutions but did not score.
“We have shown today we can mix it up.
“We can play but we can also play ugly.
“Today was a day to go long and work off the second balls, we did that.”
