Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler said he was “delighted” with his side’s 3-1 Sky Bet League One win over Sheffield United.
The Bees dominated against one of the favourites for promotion, who finished fourth in the table last year, and were well worth the win.
Adam Forshaw curled in a superb opening goal in the first half but United hit back during a period where, according to Uwe, Brentford lost the momentum.
But Will Grigg marked his competitive home debut with two goals to give Brentford the win.
Uwe, speaking after the match, said it was the right result.
“Before the game I said that after today we would know a little bit more about where we were,” said the Brentford Manager, speaking to Bees Player.
“We know we are in peak form physically but today we know that in terms of tactical approach, keeping our cool and executing the game plan we have come a long way.
“I am delighted with the win.
“It was a very pressured situation.
“Sheffield United had a fantastic win last Friday and we dealt with it in a very professional way, apart from ten minutes in the second half when we lost the momentum.
“Apart from that we were dominant and deserved the three points.”
Sheffield United equalised when Neill Collins headed in a corner but Brentford were back in front seven minutes later, an important part of the game according to Uwe.
He said United’s spell came when his players dropped a little deeper for a short period.
“Every team will go through 90 minutes and have periods where they do not fire on all cylinders,” said Uwe.
“In this period we conceded a goal straight away, that was the pity.
“We had a very well taken goal from Will to put us back in the lead.
“It was important that we weren’t chasing a goal for too long.
“The game would have got more open.
“We tried to have our defence high up to allow the midfield to press.
“For those ten minutes we dropped a bit deep.
“It is demanding, the way we want to play, but it is necessary.
“If we stop, we get punished.
“I felt we needed the energy of Jake Reeves to get them away from our goal.
“I have these options and I trust my players.
“Alan McCormack had played well but we were able to add something else.”
Uwe said he was pleased Adam Forshaw got on the score sheet as he had aimed to add more goals to his game this season.
He also had praised for two-goal Will Grigg, who played at the centre of a front three with Clayton Donaldson on the right and Conor McAleny on the left.
Brentford signed the striker this summer after his contract at Walsall expired and he marked his home debut with a brace.
The first came when George Saville escaped on the left and cut the ball back and the second was following up an Adam Forshaw shot.
The striker then won a penalty but Sheffield United goalkeeper George Long, the visitors’ best player by a distance, saved high to his left to deny him a hat-trick.
“Will Grigg led the line very well, up front on his own,” said Uwe.
“We played Clayton wider today but maybe in the next game we will play two up front.
“I felt we needed three centre midfield players in the middle against a very good footballing team.
“Clayton gave them problems, Will gave them problems with his movement, he never gave up.
“In the end he got his rewards.
“I told him he would score goals with us.
“He could have had a hat-trick today.
“I can assure our supporters he is a very good penalty taker.
“he has converted them for Walsall and has a proven record.
“He will take our next one.”
Brentford started the season with a draw away to Port Vale last week and beat Dagenham and Redbridge in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
“We are where we want to be,” said Uwe.
“It is solid, good, but there is no reason to get overexcited.
“We have integrated new players in to our system.
“I am pleased it is heading in the right direction.
“We still have a way to go to be as good as last year in certain ways.
“It is a solid start, four points and one round further in the cup.”
