Brentford Club Captain Kevin O’Connor hailed promotion to The Championship as an unbelievable experience.
The Bees were promoted from League One after beating Preston North End at Griffin Park on Friday.
Alan Judge scored the only goal from the penalty spot on the half hour.
Kevin has been on the books at Brentford for more than 15 years, coming through the youth ranks to become Club Captain, and is closing in on 500 games for The Bees.
He has been in teams to narrowly miss out on promotion and said this team deserved to go up as it had been improved after finishing third in League One last season and losing in the Play-Off Final.
He hailed the scenes at the final whistle with fans invading the pitch as amazing but The Bees had to wait for confirmation Rotherham United had lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers, which came around ten minutes later, before promotion was confirmed.
“It is unbelievable,” said Kevin, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“The scenes at the end were amazing and we had to wait a few more minutes in the changing room.
“We have had a terrific season and fully deserve promotion.
“We came close last year and we added to the squad.
“We then added again in January.”
Speaking about the match, Kevin said: “Preston didn’t have a sniff.
“We contained them well and hit on the break.
“It could have been more in the end.
“It was always going to be our day.”
Sam Saunders said he was “ecstatic” that promotion had been confirmed.
The attacking midfield player said he always knew this squad could go up and hailed the way they reacted to being mid-table in October to put together a run that has seen them lose just three of 31 League One matches.
Sam has been injured since January and admitted it had been hard to watch but praised his team mates as brilliant.
“I am ecstatic,” he said.
“I am proud of the boys.
“The boys have been fantastic.
“It has been hard watching but the boys have been brilliant.
“I have been here five years and we have been close, particularly last year.
“We will enjoy it.
“We had a difficult patch at the start of the season but we went on a winning run and I always knew the boys had it in them.”
Sam added: “Preston are no mugs and we battered them today.
“We were superb from start to finish.
“I wasn’t worried.”
