Harlee Dean was almost lost for words after Brentford booked their place in the npower League One Play-Off Final yesterday afternoon.
The Bees beat Swindon Town on penalties after a pulsating match at Griffin Park and will now meet Yeovil Town in the Play-Off Final on May 19.
The winner of that tie will be promoted to the npower Championship.
The Second Leg of the Play-Off Semi-Final started all square and Brentford went 2-0 and then 3-1 up before Swindon fought back to level, equalising in stoppage time.
Brentford dominated extra time but couldn’t find a winner in the additional 30 minutes.
They did, however, win through on spot kicks.
“It’s unbelievable,” said Harlee.
“I don’t know what to say.
“It was an unbelievable game and it’s been an unbelievable season.
“We’re at Wembley and we deserve it.
“We played good football and we deserved it.
“We are only half way there, we now have to do it at Wembley and then we will be a Championship team.”
Harlee took Brentford’s third penalty in the shoot-out and slotted it home.
Sam Saunders, Paul Hayes and Tony Craig also scored while Simon Moore saved from Swindon’s Miles Storey.
Adam Forshaw converted Brentford’s final kick to send them through.
“I went over and said I wanted to take one,” said Harlee.
“If you are confident in those situations you have to step up and take it.
“It wasn’t the best penalty but it went in.
“Simon is the best goalkeeper in the league and will go on to play in the Premier League.
“It’s been a pleasure playing in front of him this season.
“He has been unbelievable.”
Harlee hailed Brentford’s strength of character for coming back after losing their lead so late.
“The togetherness and strength of character we have is unbelievable,” said the central defender.
“I went round the lads and said ‘they’re knackered, let’s go and run them over’.
“We couldn’t do in in extra time but we won on penalties.
“I don’t care how we get there, we are there.
“We had to believe we could do it.
“It is our destiny.”
