Toumani Diagouraga said he was working hard to find the consistency needed to maintain a regular place in Brentford’s team.
The midfield player has started Brentford’s last three games and The Bees have won all three, against Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Millwall.
Brentford Manager Mark Warburton hailed him after the Millwall victory and said he bossed the game.
Warburton has challenged Toumani to maintain a high level of performance and the midfield man, speaking to Bees Player earlier this week, said he had spoken to his boss about it.
“We have discussed my consistency a few times,” said Toumani.
“That is the challenge for me.
“I can be up here one game and at a lower level the next.
“I have to find consistency; I am working hard to do that.
“I am not doing anything differently; it is just clicking at the moment.
“I am trying to take every game as it comes and be the best I can every game.”
Toumani went out on loan to Portsmouth in February to get match time and was recalled to play a part in Brentford’s final push for promotion from Sky Bet League One last season.
Before the Derby match he had started just one league game this season and four in 11 months for The Bees.
Toumani said he has always been aware of the bigger picture and the need to be patient.
“It has taken a lot of commitment to get to this stage,” he said.
“I have stayed focussed and not lost my head.
“I have looked at the bigger picture.
“I could have been a bad egg around the camp but I got my head down, kept working and have got a chance.
“I needed to play games when I went to Portsmouth.
“I went there, came back and got involved towards the end of the season.
“It was always planned that I would come back but it went perfectly, I was involved and we got promoted.”
Toumani said he always wanted to stay at Brentford but said playing games was the main thing.
“I just wanted to play football,” he said.
“During pre-season I did not know if that would be here or somewhere else.
“I read the papers and was trying to keep my head down, work hard and see what happens.
“I like to think I have always worked hard, now it is paying off.”
The trio of wins, including victories on the road at Forest and Millwall, took The Bees to sixth in the Championship.
“It was a very good week,” said Toumani.
“We had three very good performances and three wins, we can’t ask for more.
“I was delighted to be involved.
“When the team is winning as well it is very good.”
The midfield man said there was no pressure being applied within the camp about where The Bees could end up this term.
“The season has been very good so far,” he said.
“You can see from the first game that we have adapted to the league very well.
“We have a strong squad and can do things.
“There is no pressure on us, we have just got promoted.
“We will take every game as it comes and see where we are at the end of the season.”
Toumani is one of the longest serving players at Griffin Park.
He first arrived on loan from Peterborough United in January 2010 and made the deal permanent that summer.
“You can’t recognise the Club from four years ago,” he said.
“This is now a very good, established, Championship club.
“The Training Ground and facilities are designed for the players to shine.
“I want to have a settled future here and want to sign a new contract.”
