Tony Craig said Brentford produced a decent away performance against Watford last night and the players were disappointed not to get anything from the match.
The Bees were beaten 2-1 at Vicarage Road in a Sky Bet Championship fixture.
They fell behind at the end of the first half to a disputed penalty, won and converted – on the rebound after the first effort was saved – by Odion Ighalo but equalised in the second half when Jonathan Douglas finished off a sweeping move.
The Bees seemed to have the upper hand but Matěj Vydra smashed home a winner from 25 yards inside the final 20 minutes.
Tony said Brentford played well but results were the most important thing.
“I think we produced a decent away performance, we are disappointed we didn’t get the result,” said the defender, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“When we got back in the game we looked like we were on top but they came out with a great strike.
“There is a feeling of disappointment.
“It is a good performance but results are the main thing and we didn’t get one tonight.”
Watford dominated the opening stages but Brentford got to grips with Vydra and were well in the game for most of the first half.
“They had a different formation from what we were expecting,” explained Tony.
“Vydra took up some good positions and dragged a few people out.
“It took us ten to 15 minutes to work out what to do.
“When we did that we dealt with it.
“We are a team that can speak and listen to each other’s opinions.
“There were a few conversations and we sorted it out.”
The Bees fell behind at the end of the first half when James Tarkowski was adjudged by referee Graham Salisbury to have fouled Ighalo.
Tony did not want to talk about the penalty incident but said Brentford responded well after the break.
He said the winner, by Vydra, was a great strike.
“We had the momentum in the second half,” said Tony.
“When we got the goal, it looked like there would only be one winner.
“We had a few chances but didn’t take them but that’s football.
“For the winning goal sometimes you just have to say it’s a great strike.
“There have been a few and we don’t like it but it’s one to add to the collection.
“We do look at how we defend things and we will go through in on Thursday but it looked like a great strike.
“You can’t give anyone any time, they punish you.
“All those strikes are going in at the moment.”
Brentford face Reading in their next match on Saturday, October 4, and Tony said the focus was now on that fixture.
“We gave a good account of ourselves but it is a results business and we didn’t get anything,” he said.
“It’s hurting but it comes round quickly.
“We’ll come in on Thursday and concentrate on Reading.”
