Midfielder John Swift looks ahead to the Blackburn Rovers tie on Saturday, and admits the whole squad are looking forward to the coming months.
“Everyone is looking at the games coming up and we will prepare for them one at a time. November and December is a key time of the season. We have Blackburn first, it is a big game and we are looking forward to it.
“The football we have been playing is working. We have a defensive shield in behind and me, Judgie and Ryan Woods play as a three. As an attacking player, having players like Toums and Macca in there gives you confidence. We want to take the way we have been playing in to the Blackburn game.”
Game time is something that the 20-year-old sees as an important part of player development, especially on occasions like a fierce local derby.
“I think QPR was one of the biggest games I’ve ever been involved in, and to come out of that winning 1-0 the feeling you get is just amazing. You can do everything in training, but as soon as you get out on the pitch you have to perform for the team.
“Training is one thing, but if you’re not taking what you are doing in training out into a game then you’re learning but you’re not showing what you can do.”
Swift is pleased with his contribution to Brentford’s season so far, and is looking ahead to more appearances after his recent loan extension.
“I’m very pleased it was extended,” said John. “As soon as I heard the news I was on the phone to my family.
“It gives me a lot more of an opportunity to get out on a big stage and do what I love doing. I’m glad they want me to stay, it’s been good, and hopefully we can keep on going.
“I’ve got the chance to play here, in a position I’m very comfortable in. Here under Lee, we’ve been working on the training pitch because I’m not playing in a position I was playing at Chelsea. I’m playing in an attacking role here and I’m enjoying it, doing it every day and getting used to it.”
