On Thursday 30 June 12 students from Chiswick School visited Griffin Park for a special behind-the-scenes look at the football business world. Brentford FC, in partnership with local education and employment charity Spark!, hosted an Industry Insights Day to provide students from Chiswick School with the chance to learn about the different jobs and career opportunities available in the football industry from members of the Club’s staff.
The day began with a visit to the Brentford Community Stadium project office, where they were greeted by Chris Gammon, Rhys Williams and Jemma Emmerson from the project team who provided an overview of their roles on the development and the new stadium plans. This was then followed by a tour of our current stadium at Griffin Park by the Club’s Operations Manager, Alan Walsh.
In the afternoon Lee Doyle CEO of the Community Sports Trust spoke with the students about the Trust, their work in the local community and the training, coaching and apprenticeship opportunities the Trust offers. Students they had the opportunity to ask members of staff, including Lee Doyle, Chris Gammon and Madeleine Tarrant about their jobs, skills and qualifications. The day ended with team activities and exercises which gave the students a chance to demonstrate their own skills and abilities.
This Industry Insights Day follows Chris Gammon’s participation in a six week business mentoring project at Chiswick School earlier this year and is the latest example of the Club’s involvement with local organisations working across our community.
Speaking about the event, Chris said: “It was fantastic to welcome these young people to the Club and to give them an insight into the range of roles in the football industry and the significant job opportunities arising from Brentford’s planned more to its new community stadium at Lionel Road. The students seemed to really enjoy the experience and engaged in thinking about the work we do and their future careers which was great to see.”
