Stuart Dallas played the full 90 minutes as Northern Ireland suffered defeat to Scotland in a Vauxhall International Challenge Match at Hampden Park last night.
The Cookstown-born winger was joined in the starting XI by fellow Brentford player Will Grigg, currently on loan at MK Dons, as Michael O'Neill's side prepared for Sunday's crucial European Championship Qualifier with Finland.
It was the hosts, playing at Hampden for the first time since the Commonwealth Games last summer, who started the brighter.
Visiting goalkeeper Michael McGovern was forced into a number of fine saves in the first-half to deny Ikechi Anya and Steven Fletcher amongst others.
As the match wore on Northern Ireland began to pose more questions going forward and could have taken the lead when Josh Magennis burst forward but he shot wide.
Will was replaced on the hour by Paddy McCourt and just as it looked like Stuart and his teammates would earn a hard fought draw Christophe Berra found the back of the net with five minutes remaining to secure the win.
Despite failing to create much going forward as a team Stuart's performance was one that caught the eye of a number of pundits and supporters alike.
Wednesday's match was Stuart's second full cap for Northern Ireland having previously represented his country at Under-23 and Under-21 level.
Stuart has been a regular for The Bees this season, playing 34 games – 22 of them from the start.
He has scored six goals, four of them in 31 Sky Bet Championship games.
Stuart has been with Brentford since the summer of 2012, joining The Bees from IFA Premiership side Crusaders, and signed a new three-year contract in the summer after ending the 2013/14 season in fine form.
He started six of Brentford’s last seven Sky Bet League One games, scoring two goals.
Will, who joined The Bees in the summer of 2013 after leaving Walsall, has made five appearances for Northern Ireland, three of which have been since arriving at Griffin Park.
He has also played for Northern Ireland at Under-19 and Under-21 level.
Will played 36 games for Brentford last season, 34 in League One, and scored five league goals.
He has played 40 times for MK Dons and scored 13 goals.
Next up for Michael O'Neill's side is a crucial qualifier on Sunday against one of their closest rivals for a top two finish in Group F of the European Championships Qualifiers, Finland.
Northern Ireland have nine points and are two ahead of Hungary with Finland three points further back.
The top two in the group will definitely qualify for a place in the finals in France in the summer of 2016.
Northern Ireland lost 2-0 to Romania away from home in their last qualifier in November.
It was their first defeat after a fine start to their Group F campaign that saw them win their first three games.
They started the campaign with a 2-1 win in Hungary in September before beating Faroe Islands at home.
They then won 2-0 in Greece in October and sit second in the table, behind Romania.
Sunday's match will be played at Windsor Park in Belfast, kick-off 5pm, and will be shown on Sky Sports 5 HD.
