After picking up one point from their opening two matches in the Sky Bet Championship The Bees started to find their feet as August continued, with an unbeaten end to the month.
The upturn in results started on a warm summer’s evening in Lancashire as The Bees came from behind to record their first Sky Bet Championship win of the season away at struggling Blackpool. Nathan Delfuoneso put the hosts ahead but goals from Alex Pritchard and Stuart Dallas, either side of half-time, saw The Bees return south with the three points.
Four days later it was back to West London as a late Moses Odubajo goal rescued a point for Mark Warburton’s side at home to Birmingham City. The Bees had been behind, and playing with ten men, since the 15th minute after Tony Craig saw red for bringing down Clayton Donaldson in the incident that led to Paul Caddis putting The Blues ahead from the spot. Despite their man disadvantage The Bees dominated the second-half and deservedly levelled with 11 minutes to play when Moses burst clear and finished calmly.
It wasn’t all positives for Brentford however as their participation in the Capital One Cup ended as Fulham left Griffin Park with a 1-0 win thanks to Ross McCormack’s second–half goal. However The Bees quickly put that disappointment behind them as goals in each half from Andre Gray and Nick Proschwitz made it back-to-back away wins for Mark Warburton’s side as they picked up the three points at Rotherham United. The win was marred however by a serious knee injury picked up by Scott Hogan late on.
The upturn in form and results also saw three players called up for international duty as Daniel O’Shaughnessy was selected in the Finland Under-21 squad for their Euro 2015 Qualifiers against Wales and San Marino while Alex Pritchard joined up with the England Under-21s for their qualifers in Lithuania and Moldova. Will Grigg was also included in the Northern Ireland squad for their Euro 2016 Qualifier against Hungary.
It wasn’t such a positive start for the Development Squad however with Crewe Alexandra striking three times in the final 15 minutes to take the points in the opening Under-21 Professional Development League Two South fixture of the season. Josh Clarke and Jermaine Udumaga had The Bees 2-1 ahead before The Railwaymen turned the game around in the final quarter of an hour.
Brentford’s Youth Team got their season off to a winning start as Seth Owens late header helped to beat Millwall 2-1 at Jersey Road. Their fine start to the season was continued a week later as Bradley Clayton’s double and goals from Seika Jatta and Courtney Austin saw off Barnsley 4-1 at Oakwell.
In player news Josh Clarke joined Sky Bet League Two side Dagenham and Redbridge on loan for a month while midfielder Jake Reeves left The Bees by mutual consent after five years at the club.
Former Brentford captain Terry Evans was added to the club’s Hall of Fame.
