Sam Saunders said he hoped Brentford’s 3-1 win over Colchester United would be a “turning point”.
The Bees picked up their first win after three defeats in a row as they came from behind to beat the Essex side.
They trailed to a goal from a corner but Marcello Trotta equalised before George Saville curled in a shot from 25 yards to put The Bees in front.
Kadeem Harris marked his Brentford debut by heading home the third.
“This result has been coming,” said Sam.
“We have had chances but the goals haven’t gone in.
“When they did the confidence oozes through the team and we looked comfortable.
“Hopefully this is the turning point and we can build on it.
“The performances have been better than the results have been.”
Sam came off the bench with Brentford 1-0 down.
He said he felt Brentford had been the better team and praised his team mates for the way they came back in to the game.
“The crowd were a bit edgy, you could feel it,” said Sam.
“Coming on at 1-0 down you want to get a result.
“I think we were the better team throughout the game but we conceded from a set piece.
“Confidence is a little bit low.
“To go 1-0 down is not ideal.
“The boys dug in, we went about it the right way, didn’t panic.
“The crowd were getting at a few people; I think that’s unnecessary, we are in this together.
“Everyone at the Club is working hard; it hasn’t been falling our way.
“Hopefully this can be a turning point and we can go on a little run.
“We don’t want to be mid-table and we are not there due to lack of effort.
“We need a bit of luck and hopefully we will push on.”
Sam said he tried to help his team mates continue to pass the ball and attack using width rather than hitting the ball long.
“We just wanted everyone to get on the ball and stay calm,” he said.
“Sometimes when you are a goal down it can be a bit rushed.
“The boys were fantastic.
“We got it from the back, the full backs wanted the ball and we built from there.
“The front three worked really hard, Jonathan Douglas looked like he had never been away and George got a great goal, he deserved that.
“Trotta got a goal and Kadeem scored his first in professional football.
“It has been a good day.
“At 1-0 down we’d have bitten your hand off for that.”
Sam said George’s goal was the sort that had not been going in for Brentford in recent weeks.
He admitted the win was a relief.
“In the last couple of weeks we have hit the post or the keeper has been saving it,” he said.
“It was nice for George’s shot to hit the post and go in.
“It was a relief for everyone.
“When you are not winning and feel you should be, you feel it.
“I am glad that we didn’t panic at 1-0.
“Sometimes there were jeers from the crowd when we played out from the back.
“We are not a team that knocks it long, sometimes they have to be more patient.
“We have young lads trying to do the right thing.
“Unnecessary pressure doesn’t help.”
After Brentford were beaten at Stevenage last week, Manager Uwe Rösler, the coaching staff and players held a long discussion.
Sam said it was good to clear the air and there had been a positive atmosphere around the camp.
He said the players wanted that positivity to remain and were looking forward to the next game, away to Bristol City on Tuesday night.
“Sometimes you need to clear the air,” said Sam.
“Everyone is frustrated and hurting.
“We are all grown men, sometimes you have to take a bit of criticism, listen and learn.
“Training has been good.
“We have been positive this week.
“We want to keep the positivity flying around.
“We are buzzing for Tuesday now.”
