George Saville said he was proud to score his first goal in professional football in Brentford’s 3-1 win over Colchester United.
The midfield player put Brentford 2-1 up with ten minutes to go as he curled in a shot from 25 yards.
The Bees had trailed after conceding from a corner but Marcello Trotta equalised before Kadeem Harris headed a third to make the game safe.
George’s goal came when Alan McCormack won the ball in midfield; he stepped on to it and curled it in off the post from 25 yards.
The 20-year-old, on loan from Chelsea, had come close with a shot in the first half and hit the crossbar with a header just before his goal.
“It is a very proud moment for me,” George told Bees Player after the match.
“I am really pleased to get on the score sheet.
“The ball rolled in to my path and I hit it.
“It was a good goal.
“I could have scored in the first half and I should have scored the header.
“I made up for it.”
George said Brentford showed great spirit to come back from a goal down.
He admitted it had been tough losing three games in a week before Colchester came to Griffin Park but it was a great feeling to win and the team had to kick on from here.
“It took us a bit of time to get in to the game and we had a spell when we were on top,” he said.
“We played some nice stuff at times.
“It was disappointing to go a goal behind but we showed great spirit to get back in to the game and turn it around.
“It has been a hard couple of weeks.
“To get a win at home for the fans is a great feeling.
“We have to kick on from here.”
George played alongside Jonathan Douglas and Adam Forshaw in a midfield three.
The Bees played a similar shape to that which they played at the start of the season but George said Brentford had an even more attacking mind-set.
He said The Bees had to be patient and it paid off.
“We started off with three in midfield at the start of the season and it worked very well for us,” he said.
“We have gone more attacking today and it paid off.
“We kept on playing when we went behind, didn’t panic and got the points.
“The big thing is patience.
“Teams come here and sit off; we end up playing in front of them.
“We have worked hard in training and said we had to keep patient.
“We did that.”
George missed some games in September with a hip injury but he said he was fully fit now and enjoying his spell at Brentford.
“I was out for a couple of weeks but am back properly now,” he said.
“I feel I am growing as a player here.
“It is great to have experienced players around looking after you.”
