Brentford's Youth Team made it three wins in four games as they swept aside a poor Nottingham Forest at The Nigel Doughty Academy this morning.
In truth The Bees were not at their best but they had more than enough to see off Forest to maintain top spot in the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South.
Kingsley Eshun put Anthony Hayes' side ahead on the half hour as he slammed home following good work on the right by Julius Fenn-Evans.
Brentford had chances to extend their lead but it took until midway through the second-half for them to wrap up the points as Eshun backheeled home from a close range following a goalmouth scramble.
Anthony Hayes made three changes from the win over Leeds United last time out with Fenn-Evans, Audrius Laucys and Makhosini Khanye replacing Bradley Clayton, Seth Owens and Courtney Senior.
The hosts could have taken the lead in the opening 30 seconds but Nik Tzanev turned away Luke Thomas' drive from the edge of the box.
Fenn-Evans nearly capitalised on a wayward pass by Ryan Yates but Richard Dearle just about did enough to keep his looping effort out from a tight angle.
It was evident from very early on that the match would be a contrast of styles as Brentford held on to possession well with Forest going long towards the physical Gerry McDonagh at every occasion.
Brentford nearly played themselves into trouble as the ball was nicked by Liam Adams but his deep cross was volleyed over at the back post by Aiden Austin.
Eshun volleyed over after a good spell of Brentford possession while Alex Iacovitti shot over from six yards after Tzanev had fumbled an in-swinging corner.
Forest looked like they were starting to get on top as Iacovitti's looping header was saved, Adams hit the side netting from 10 yards with only Tzanev to beat and Thomas hooked an acrobatic effort wide at the back post.
However, having failed to take their chances, the hosts were punished as Elvis Otim dwelled on the ball and lost out to Fenn-Evans who ran into the box and rolled back for Eshun to fire home from eight yards on the half-hour.
Kevin McDonald had cut a frustrated figure in the hosts technical area in the opening half-hour and the manner his side conceded did nothing to improve his mood.
Brentford threatened to compound his frustration as Reece Cole whipped a free-kick over the bar, Khanye saw a shot saved by Dearle and, with the last kick of the half, Tom Field guided his shot wide of the near post after he had ghosted into the box unmarked.
The Bees should have added a second just after the restart as Fenn-Evans, making his Under-18 debut aged 15, went on a wonderful run only to see his shot half-saved by Dearle, Otim's clearance off the line fell straight to Kyjuon Marsh-Brown five yards out but he somehow managed to flash his shot across the face of goal.
As the second-half wore on Forest sought to get the ball forward as quickly as they could but Laucys and Gradi Milenge were dominant in the air with Tzanev claiming everything crossed into the box.
Laucys and Milenge were also a threat in the air going forward and that was how it proved midway through the half as Laucys header from a corner wasn't cleared and Eshun cheekily back-heeled home from four yards to double The Bees lead.
Forest piled forward late on and Yates couldn't get enough contact on McDonagh's deep free-kick while at other end Chris Mepham saw a header cleared off the line by Thomas.
The hosts could have halved the arrears with a quarter of an hour to go but Kasheme Walton's header was saved by Tzanev and Milenge was in the right place to clear before McDonagh could latch onto the rebound.
McDonald's side came even closer three minutes from time as Walton's header hit the bar, Laucys blocked McDonagh's follow up and when the ball dropped to Walton he somehow headed wide from three yards.
Brentford were determined not to concede as the game entered injury-time, Tzanev did well to turn away a Thomas free-kick and from the resulting corner Laucys and Milenge threw themselves in the way of Yates and Otim's follow up shots.
In the end The Bees played out the remaining minutes comfortably to make it one defeat in six games ahead of next Saturday's top of the table clash at Cardiff City.
