Youth Team midfielder Reece Cole said his side have to improve after their horror-show against Huddersfield Town on Saturday morning.
Brentford went into the game on the back of one defeat in six games but were never in the game against The Terriers once the host took the lead after eight minutes through Liam Coggins.
Ronan Coughlan made it 2-0 just before the hour and the match was wrapped up in injury-time as Rekiel Pyke got a deserved goal.
Speaking to Bees Player after the game Reece said the mood in the dressing room was very low after the game.
The 16-year-old said that the players took full responsibility for the defeat and that there were no excuses for their performance.
“Everyone is down and nobody is happy in the changing room,” said Reece.
“We didn’t come here to lose 3-0.
“Nobody did their job properly.
“Everyone knows that they haven’t done their job.
“We have gone out there to do our own personal things.
“It didn’t come off and that is how we lost the game.
“At half-time the coaches couldn’t say a lot to us because we weren’t doing anything right.
“They told us that we needed to take ownership on ourselves and I think we did do that for the first 10-15 minutes.
“We went out started playing the ball and it was good but then they got the second goal and that killed us.
“After the second goal everyone’s heads went down but we have to be better than that.
“As soon as the second goal goes in we have got to be back on it to try and get a goal.
“They were better than us and we couldn’t do anything about it.
“We weren’t good enough and they were better than us technically and tactically.
“We didn’t train a lot this week but there are no excuses.
“We have to go again next week and get the three points next week.”
The 11am kick-off in West Yorkshire meant an overnight stay for the players and coaching staff ahead of the fixture.
To help prepare for the game and to get the boys used to overnight stays these Academy games are treated as a first-team game would be treated.
The team trained on Friday morning before driving up to Huddersfield to stay in a local hotel ahead of the game.
Reece said that there was a feeling in the squad that they had let the club down putting in such a poor performance after the club had done so much to help prepare them.
“It is brilliant when you get an overnight stay,” said Reece.
“The club do their best to get you the nicest hotel and preparation was just right.
“We have let the coaches and the club down coming here and losing 3-0.
“They have spent all this money to have the nicest facilities and everyone feels that they have let the club down.”
Reece has started all but one of The Bees Under-18 Professional Development League Two South games this season as he begins his two-year scholarship.
The industrious midfielder has helped Brentford to their best league start so far in the competition with 11 points from their opening seven games leaving them well placed at the top end of the table.
Next up is the visit of Leeds United on Saturday and Reece is calling for a reaction from the squad from the visit of The Whites.
“The start of the season has gone well but it could have gone better,” said Reece.
“We know personally that we can better.
“If we are up near the top of the league and we can do better that means that we can go flying.
“Everyone in the changing room thinks we can win the league this year.
“We just have to get our heads down and get performances like today out of our system.
“We have to make it right against Leeds United on Saturday.
“We want to go to the next game and put everything right and get this game out of our system.
“Today is disappointing because we know we can be better.
“If we didn’t know we could be better then it would be an average performance for us.
“We know we can be better than them and we know we are better than them but on the day we let ourselves down.”
