Moses Odubajo said that it has started to sink in that he is an England international after he made his England Under-20 debut in their win over Mexico on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old played 90 minutes at right-back for Aidy Boothroyd’s side as they came from behind to beat Mexico on penalties at The Hive, Barnet.
Moses, who joined The Bees in the summer of 2014 from Leyton Orient, was joined in the England Under-20 squad by Chris Long who is on loan with Brentford from Everton.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Moses said it was a good feeling to make his England debut and be recognised internationally.
The right-back added that the other members of the squad, including Chris, had welcomed him into the ranks and made it an enjoyable experience.
“It was a good feeling,” said Moses.
“The tempo is a lot different to club football and I am delighted that I made my debut today.
“It has been a good time with the squad.
“The lads have welcomed me which is always good.
“I knew a couple of them from before which is good.
“Chris Long was here as well which helped me a lot and I feel like that friendship is going to grow.
“It has sunk in now.
“At first I felt like it was an honour and that it was great to be here.
“Now I am here it is time for me to make my mark and show the England supporters what I am truly about.”
Mexico took the lead on Wednesday night when Jose Ramirez fired home just after half-time but the match turned with ten minutes to play.
Former Brentford loan player Chuba Akpom was tripped in the box by Mexican goalkeeper Raul Manolo Gudino Vega.
The goalkeeper saw red for the challenge and Akpom picked himself up to score the penalty.
With the match level at 1-1 after 90 minutes the match went to a penalty shoot-out which The Young Lions won 4-2.
Moses said the tempo of the match was very different to what he was used to at club level, adding that it was good to get a win in his first England appearance.
“It was different being at right wing-back,” said Moses.
“I found myself further up the field than I usually do even though that sounds a bit weird.
“I will have to get used to that.
“I am a bit tough on myself at times but I am happy that I have made my debut for my country.
“I have got to take all the positives I can out of it and work on all the negatives.
“The message from the start was to get forward.
“All credit to Mexico however as they pinned us back with their talented wingers.
“Second-half we came out strongly and pushed them back and it paid off.
“We put pressure on them with the extra man and we had a couple of chances at the end.
“I didn’t think the match was going to go to penalties at the time but it is always good to get into a winning habit.
“We go into the next game unbeaten.”
