Simon Moore said he does not consider himself to be Brentford’s number one yet, although he has played the last 11 First Team games.
The young goalkeeper played the final three games of last season and has been selected for all eight this term, some when Richard Lee – who has the number one shirt – has been injured, others when he has been on the bench.
Simon said he feels he is getting better and is only concentrating on that.
“My aim is to be Brentford’s number one goalkeeper,” said Simon.
“But I don’t consider that I am at the moment.
“Rich is a fantastic goalkeeper, he’ll be back from injury soon.
“Antoine [Gounet] is very good as well.
“I just do my best week in week out, that’s all I focus on.
“I feel I’m, getting more confident with each game and my performances are improving.
“You only way to improve, and learn, is by playing games.
“I have to keep the run going, do my best in training and off the pitch.”
Simon was Brentford’s only fit goalkeeper for Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with AFC Bournemouth as The Bees went in to the match without a stopper on the bench.
He said it wasn’t something that affected him but admitted it did cross his mind when he conceded a penalty on the south coast, albeit one he felt was soft.
No further action was taken against Simon after the spot kick was awarded.
“It’s been a difficult few weeks for the goalkeepers,” said Simon.
“Games have been coming thick and fast and I’ve enjoyed playing.
“At the moment I feel really good.
“You don’t think about there not being sub goalkeeper when you’re playing, I only concentrate on doing my best.
“I try to get wins, keep clean sheets and put the focus on yourself.”
Simon said Brentford were disappointed with how they played in the first half at Bournemouth but could have won it in the end.
The Bees took an early lead through an own goal but trailed at the break and were second best in the first 45.
Harry Forrester levelled but Simon had to produce a couple of fine saves to ensure it ended 2-2.
“We were disappointed with our performance in the first half, we didn’t start well at all,” said the goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Bees Player.
“Second half we were a lot better; we had more of the play.
“We were unlucky not to come away with three points in the end.
“Bournemouth are a good side, they’ll be up there this season.
“To go there and get a point is not the end of the world.
“It was a hard earned point.
“As a goalkeeper you have to keep your focus – against Crewe Alexandra a couple of weeks ago I didn’t touch the ball in the first 23 minutes.
“Against Bournemouth, in the second half, I didn’t have a lot to do until the final 10 minutes.
“I kept my focus, made a couple of good saves and was pleased.”
Simon said Brentford faced a big game against Oldham Athletic tomorrow, the start of a tough run of games which included a trip to League One leaders Tranmere Rovers and a match against Crawley Town, who are fourth.
He said if Brentford could make a few slight improvements, they would have a good season.
“It’s brilliant that we have played such good football this season,” he said.
“Maybe we need to be a bit more clinical in front of goal.
“If we can build on that I am sure we will have a good season.
“Saturday is a big game for us, but every one is.
“We want to make Griffin Park a fortress, and difficult for every team.
“A win would give us momentum going in to the upcoming games.”
