Marinus Dijkhuizen gave his reaction to the defeat at Burnley, who scored the decisive goal in the 26th minute from Michael Keane.
“In the first half we were by far the better side, especially in the first 25 minutes,” said Marinus. “It was good organisation, high pressure, and good on the ball. We created good chances; it’s just the finishing.
“The second half we put a lot of energy but didn’t create hardly anything.”
Burnley’s deciding goal came from a corner kick, with defender Keane left unmarked to score a close range header.
“We knew Burnley are strong with set pieces,” said Marinus. “Philipp Hoffman’s opponent scored the goal; we’re not worried but we have to pay attention to that [because] it cost our game.”
Dijkhuizen made a tactical change mid-way in the second half, bringing on Maxime Colin at right back for his Brentford debut, with Alan McCormack moving into midfield.
“[We had] a little bit more pressure on the midfield with Macca,” said Marinus. “Maxime is a good player on the ball, very comfortable, so we’ll get more play making from behind. I was happy with the performance from him.”
Andre Gray’s transfer to Burnley ended a month of speculation about the striker, which gave the Head Coach mixed feelings on whether it was a good thing his situation was cleared up once and for all.
“The last two games we had Andre in and we needed him,” said Marinus. “It’s good to solve it because it was going on for three, four weeks – too long - so it’s the best thing for all parties to get it solved and now we have to find replacements.
“It’s difficult, with ten days to go, we’re working very hard for it. As you know, strikers are difficult in this window so we will see.”
