Alan Judge surveyed the 1-0 defeat at Burnley claiming that Brentford were the superior team and deserved more from the game.
“I thought we were the better team by a long way,” said Alan. “They’ve got two good forwards, and I think that may be the difference. They don’t really play football, like Ipswich they go back to front quite quick. It’s effective and we got punished on the set piece by them.
“In the first half an hour of the game they couldn’t live with us. Obviously when they got the goal it settled a bit of nerves for them so we’ve just got to kick on from here and see how it goes in the next week.”
The Irishman had a chance to open the scoring with a direct free-kick but Clarets Tom Heaton made a fine save, diving to his left.
“The keeper was unsighted so I thought I’d go on his side,” said Alan. “He took a step to the right but managed to get back quickly enough.”
The midfielder hoped Marinus could add to the squad by the time the transfer window ends on 1 September.
“It’s not easy for the manager,” said Alan. “He needs players; we’ve got 13 fit First Team players so hopefully they will sort that. Especially with the way we play football, clubs are going to want to take our players. With the way Andre played last year there was no surprise that he had suitors that wanted to come and take him.”
The defeat ended a mixed week for the 26-year-old, who has been called up to the provisional Republic of Ireland squad for their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Georgia.
“The manager has named the provisional squad so let’s see what happens,” said Alan. “Hopefully if I keep performing I might get a chance and get in the squad.”
