Marcello Trotta said Brentford should probably have had their Sky Bet League One game against Milton Keynes Dons won by half time.
The Bees picked up their 11th win in 12 League One games, moving to the top of the table in the process, with a 3-1 win on Saturday.
Clayton Donaldson scored early on and Marcello and Sam Saunders hit further goals in the second half.
MK came back well, pulled a goal back and piled on the pressure but Brentford took the win.
Marcello, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the win, said Brentford’s players were happy with the victory but knew they were sloppy at times and had enough chances in the first half to have made the game safe.
“As a team we showed how strong we are,” said the striker.
“We are in good form.
“We are top of the table now and that is good.
“We are happy to be top but overall we are a bit disappointed today.
“We were a bit sloppy.
“I think we just have to keep going.
“The early goal gave us a good start.
“We just kept doing our thing.
“They left us a bit of space, we countered them and had a lot of chances first half.
“We should have killed the game early.”
Marcello had a golden chance in the first half when free in the inside left channel but he blasted over when a pass to Clayton Donaldson would surely have resulted in a goal.
He made amends early in the second half when he scored Brentford’s second from a Sam Saunders pass.
“I put my head down to have a shot in the first half, I thought it was on,” said Marcello.
“I will look at the replay and maybe I should have squared it.
“I didn’t have the best touch for the goal, I just slotted it in.
“I was very happy with that.”
Marcello is on a loan deal from Fulham that expires next week.
He said he wanted to stay at Brentford.
“I am very happy here, they are trying to sort things with Fulham,” he said.
“It is down to Fulham, I think I will be staying here.
“I would love to stay.
“I am scoring and the fans are recognising that, it is pleasing to get their reaction.”
Brentford’s next match is against Peterborough United tomorrow, New Year’s Day.
Marcello said Brentford feared no-one.
“We focus one game at a time,” he said.
“We try to do the basics right and do our best.
“We have a good quality squad and we aren’t scared of anybody.
“We play our game and see how it goes.”
