Makhosini Khanye said there was a real buzz in the Youth Team changing room after their 2-1 victory over Cardiff City on Saturday morning.
The Bees fell behind just before half-time to Lloyd Humphries fine finish but second-half goals from Bradley Clayton and Zain Westbrooke saw them emerge with the victory.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Makhosini said he felt The Bees should have done better in the first-half but that they showed their quality in the second-half.
The midfielder said that the Youth Team dressing room was a great place to be after the win and that there is a great team spirit among the group.
“Everyone is chuffed,” said Makhosini.
“There is a real buzz going round the changing room especially as we came from being 1-0 down in the first-half.
“Everyone is happy to get the win and go home.
“The fact that we have been able to maintain first place in the table was a real bonus.
“First-half I didn’t think we played that well and we went 1-0 down.
“Second-half we executed our game plan and played well.
“At the end of the game they blew up because they had pressed so much and we got the deserved victory.
“The way they were going you can’t press like that for 90 minutes.
“The more we kept the ball the more tired they got because we were able to move it from side to side.
“You knew they would switch off for a moment and we made them pay.
“There are 90 minutes in a game so you don’t have to go full out for the first 45 minutes.
“There are two halves to a game and anything can happen.
“The more patient that we are the more chances that will come.”
The result maintained Brentford’s place at the head of the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South.
For Makhosini, who has played in the last two disappointing seasons the youth team, there is a vastly different mentality in the Youth Team this campaign.
That mentality is driving both individuals and the teams on the much better performances which Makhosini thinks are showing in the results.
“It is very different from the last couple of seasons,” said Makhosini.
“Everyone in the changing room is on each other’s backs demanding the best.
“The bond is really strong so everyone is playing for each other as well as playing for themselves.
“The pressure keeps everyone on their toes.
“You know that the moment you play badly someone else is going to take your spot.”
Makhosini has been employed on the right-hand side of The Bees midfield diamond this season, a position he hasn’t been accustomed to.
Saturday’s win was his seventh appearance of the season and the 18-year-old thinks with every training session and passing game he is getting more natural in the position.
“I thought I was a bit shaky in the first-half but second-half I got into the game more and I think I played well,” said Makhosini.
“It is a massive transition from defence to midfield.
“I think the more games that I play there the better that I will become.
“I am hoping to get more game time out wide and see where that takes me.
“Being in the midfield you have to work back and be able to defend.
“Hopefully I can cement my spot.
“The better I play in training the more game time I will get and hopefully that will show in the games.”
