Brentford loanee Romelle Donovan picked up the Player of the Match award as Sheffield United defeated Wrexham 1-0 in the Championship.

The 19-year-old was a constant threat at Bramall Lane in what was his first league start since early September.

Donovan has featured 14 times for Chris Wilder’s side across the Championship and Carabao Cup, scoring twice and providing one assist so far.

He went close to setting up the opener on Friday night, but his near-post cross was fired over by Jordan Ayew.

Ben Brereton Diaz scored the only goal of the game 30 minutes into a dominant first-half display.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Jayden Meghoma started as Portsmouth held Burnley to a goalless draw at Turf Moor. Fellow Bees loanee Benjamin Arthur was not involved due to his ongoing rehabilitation from a back injury sustained in September.

Yunus Emre Konak played the full 90 minutes for Lincoln City, who succumbed to a 3-1 home defeat to Birmingham City.

Sheffield United and the Imps sit in 10th and 16th places respectively after 13 games.

In League Two, Josh Stephenson and Matt Cox were on opposing teams as Crewe Alexandra drew 1-1 against Barnet.

Tom Knowles put Cox’s in-form Barnet side in front before a late Zac Williams own goal saw it end honours even between the two promotion-chasing sides at the Mornflake Stadium.

At the other end of the League Two table, Rotherham United were beaten 2-1 by Swindon Town in an eventful game at the Nigel Eady County Ground.

Julian Eyestone made a couple of smart stops for the Millers, who were reduced to 10 men after just four minutes and ended the game with nine, following straight red cards for Jili Buyabu and Dominic Iorfa.

Ben Krauhaus was not involved as Falkirk secured a first victory over Celtic in 19 years, moving up to fourth place in the Scottish Premiership following that 2-0 success.

That rounded off a memorable week for the Bairns, for whom Krauhaus scored the winner on Wednesday night in a 1-0 victory against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Finally, Michael Olakigbe was utilised as a second-half substitute as WSG Tirol lost 2-1 at LASK in the Austrian Bundesliga.

The winger has recorded 10 goal involvements across 14 appearances in all competitions this season.
