Yehor Yarmoliuk was on target as Brentford B beat Wycombe Wanderers Under-21s 2-1 at Adams Park in the Premier League Cup on Monday evening.

First-team players Gustavo Nunes, Benjamin Fredrick, Josh Dasilva and Ji-soo Kim all featured in the tight contest but it was Domeiro Bobb-Semple who grabbed the winner which extends the young Bees' lead at the top of Group J.

Sam Saunders' side began the game in control as they pushed for an early goal against their opponents.

Ollie Shield went close as he was found in the box but his shot was saved well by Stuart Moore with the goalkeeper parrying away the effort from danger.

Joseph Wheeler-Henry also went close as he looked to continue his fine run of form in front of goal but he dragged his shot wide.

It was an uneventful first period of football but Brentford did manage to take the lead on 44 minutes as Yarmoliuk produced a moment of quality, caressing the ball into the corner of the net from the edge of the box.

There was enough time for the home side to draw level though as Emre Tezgel latched onto a loose ball in the box, finishing expertly beyond Reggie Rose on the stroke of the half-time whistle.

In the second period, it was a much more open game as Isaac Holland had an immediate chance to put his side back in front but from a tight angle he dragged his shot wide.

Second-half substitute Josh Dasilva went close, only just striking over following a pass from Luca Picotto.

Jahrel McCoy teased his way into the box and drew a save from Rose who had to be positioned well to deny the winger.

Domeiro Bobb-Semple chased a lofted through ball from Riley Owen but his left-footed shot was saved well by Moore who got down low to make stop.

Bobb-Semple was not to be denied on his second attempt as he held the ball up well before firing a deflected shot which looped over the head of Moore into the net.

That was how it finished, and the result leaves the west Londoners top of Group J with 10 points from their four games.

The Bees are back in action on Friday 6 November as they turn their attentions to the Premier League 2 where they will take on Wolves U21s at Wheatsheaf Park.

Burke: We showed the quality to get the win

Reaction: Chris Burke on Wycombe Wanderers win

Brentford B assistant coach Chris Burke reacts to his side's 2-1 win against Wycombe Wanderers Under-21s in the Premier League Cup.

"We always knew that we were a team that never goes away, not was not a perfect game but the desire, the work ethic and passion from the team is second to none.

"We are delighted with the team and how we have played and football is never going to be perfect, there will be times where you have to dig in and keep going till the end.

"The first-team players were great and showed the right attitude, application and quality but the whole group have to be focused and the finishers off the bench have done that today which has helped us to get the points."
