Richard Lee said Brentford were pleased to book a place in the FA Cup with Budweiser Second Round draw.
The Bees beat Blue Square Bet South Boreham Wood yesterday thanks to first half goals from Clayton Donaldson and Harry Forrester.
Richard, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said he felt the game was over once the second went in just before the break.
He added Brentford were always in control in the second period.
“We are pleased,” he said.
“We knew it would be tough, they are flying the top of their league.
“Although there are a few leagues between us, there isn’t a lot of difference on the day.
“There are 11 guys fired up and it will be tough.
“But we weathered the storm and took control in the second half.
“It was a cup tie, everyone was up for it and it was a great atmosphere to play in.
“They had a couple of chances and thankfully we kept them out.
“As soon as we got the second, that was that.
“At 2-0 they were never coming back.
“We wanted to get it done today; at 1-0 they know they have a shot.
“The second goal put it beyond them.
“We were always in control second half.”
Richard made his second First Team appearance of the season at Boreham Wood and said he was pleased with his performance.
He said he understood why Simon Moore had played Brentford’s first 15 npower League One games of the 2012/13 season and said the young goalkeeper had played well.
Richard said he felt the position of first choice goalkeeper was up for grabs and he would take his chance when it came.
“I don’t get many opportunities to play these days, I was pleased with what I did,” he said.
“Simon Moore has been fantastic, I understand why he has been selected, but when I play I feel good.
“I am pleased with what I am doing; if a chance comes I will be ready.
“I understand the situation we are in, the Manager [Uwe Rösler] has dealt with it very well and I believe the shirt is still up for grabs.
“I don’t feel there is a great deal between us – Simon is a very good keeper and I feel I am coming in to my prime.
“When I get chosen I will give everything for this club.
“Simon hasn’t been at fault for a single goal this season, in my opinion, and has been very solid.
“All I can do is take my chance when it comes.
“It’s nice to make a couple of saves and get a clean sheet.”
Richard said Brentford were eyeing progress in the cup competitions this season.
The Bees are in the Southern Section Quarter Final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, and visit Southend United next month, as well as the FA Cup Second Round.
“We have Southend in the JPT and that will be tough and now we look forward to the Second Round draw in the FA Cup,” said the goalkeeper.
“It’s not ideal for me to play a game every three weeks but it is better than nothing.
“Hopefully we can crack on in the cups.
“If we make the Third Round then hopefully we can get a big team.
“And in the JPT we believe we can get to Wembley if we do it right.
“There are exciting times to come.”
