Lee Carsley saw his side’s winning run extend to four matches with a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers, the club’s first victory over their nearest neighbours in 50 years.
“I thought it was a typical derby, edgy,” said Lee. “Like I said in the pre-match chat I had with the lads, the crowd would play a big part in what we did tonight. I wanted the atmosphere to be tense and hostile, but in the right way, and I thought it was. The players fed off that. It wasn’t pretty to watch and we rode our luck a little bit in the first half.
“We addressed that at half time and were a lot better second half.”
Lee praised the players for their efforts in gaining the three points, refusing to take credit for the four match winning run.
“They should be proud of what they’ve done tonight,” said Lee. “They’ve represented the Club fantastically well. We started the second half good, showed a lot of energy, and played with a little bit more confidence. It’s a quick turnaround so we have to make sure we do it again on Tuesday now.
“They are getting what they deserve, for the work rate, the effort that they are putting in. One of the stats we look at after the game is the amount that we’ve run and we’re outrunning the opposition at the minute by large distances and that has to continue.”
