Brentford defender James Tarkowski gave his post-match verdict on the 1-0 derby win over Queens Park Rangers at Griffin Park.
“It was a great night for everyone involved, fans, players, staff,” said James. “I wouldn’t say it’s our best performance over the last couple of weeks but to get the clean sheet, to battle it out and to get that goal that we needed and to come away with the three points is all we can ask for really.
“It did open up a bit in the second half but they went quite direct and once we had the goal I thought we played a bit more safer, put it in behind and let our forward players work hard and it worked in our favour.”
The 22-year-old claimed the defence had a point to prove after now earning three clean sheets in a row.
“We need to make up some clean sheets after all the goals we conceded at the start of the season,” said James. “But I feel like we’ve got a really settled back five at the moment. It’s not just us, it’s the lads in front of us that are working really, really hard and it’s helping us out massively.”
James was clear how the team should not be complacent after the recent run of good form. “We were well down there a couple of weeks ago,” said James.
“To get ourselves back up the table [is great] but we can’t stop there, we can’t think the work’s done. We need to keep kicking on and get ourselves where we deserve to be, which is at the top of the table.”
