Josh Clarke has set his sights on another contract at Griffin Park after a set of impressive performances against Bristol City and Cardiff City. The right-sided defender or winger put in the cross for Scott Hogan’s goal on Saturday and produced a solid performance against The Bluebirds over 90 minutes.
“I thought I did well,” said Josh. “I played my game; I was nervous at the start, it’s different from [under] 21s so I thought ‘let me just play my game’. Obviously it’s a big step up for me from League Two where I was on loan and done well but I went as a wide man but I had to just prepare right and focus on the game.”
Dean put his faith in the 21-year-old, who was spotted at 17 by Brentford playing for the Nike Academy, when options of players with more experience in that position were available.
“I thank him for putting trust in me,” said Josh. “I’ve been working hard in training, been learning; I’ve seen the young players playing week-in, week-out and I just think I need to carry on learning and work hard.”
His next target is to earn a new contract, with his current deal expiring in the summer.
“100 per cent,” said Josh. “I want to stay in this league as much as possible. Hopefully something will happen but I’ve got to keep working, get my head down and try and play as much games as I can.”
