Jermaine Udamaga felt Brentford deserved their second U21 Professional Development League Two South success in eight days following a 2-1 win over QPR on Tuesday.
Brentford took the lead just after the half-hour as Jermaine slotted home a penalty after Courtney Senior had been brought down in the box.
QPR had a chance to level late on in the half but Jack Bonham saved Bruno Andrade’s weak spot-kick.
The visitors did draw level six minutes into the second-half through Josh Hunt-Laurent but Betinho wrapped up the points for The Bees late on.
Speaking to Bees Player after the game Jermaine was in no doubt that he and his teammates deserved the win.
“It was a tough game especially in the first 15 minutes,” said Jermaine.
“We weathered out the storm.
“They were pressing us but we dealt with that quite well.
“We got into the game and started to press them and they couldn’t really get out of their half.
“I thought we deserved to go in at half-time with a lead.
“It helped the team a lot going into half-time 1-0 up.
“If we had gone in 1-1 it could have been a totally different game and we are thankful to Jack Bonham.
“Obviously they got a goal early on in the second-half and I thought we just had to keep going and I thought we would end up winning it.
“With Courtney Senior and Montell Moore on the wings I thought they got into the game quite well.
“They were so scared of Courtney on the right.
“He was pressing them, making them scared and won the penalty.”
The match was played in a howling wind which The Bees played into in the first-half.
Conditions made it difficult to judge passes and anything hit up into the wind stopped dead and started to fall back.
Jermaine admitted that conditions played a big part in the match and that The Bees had to adjust their tactics to deal with the elements.
“The conditions influenced the game quite a bit,” said Lee.
“If you are playing against the wind you aren’t going to be able to pass it as much because teams are going to press you.
“You are not going to be able to clip the ball into the midfielders because the wind might bring it back.
“You need to change your game plan.
“With the wind against us Lee Carsley said we might have to spin it in behind and get the second balls.
“That is what we tried to do and it worked.”
The Bees have now won back to back league games after going eight games without a win earlier in the season.
After such a tough start to the season Jermaine said that confidence within the group took a bit of a knock.
However with an upturn in results Jermaine sees the confidence returning and that has led to a rise in the intensity in training.
“We had to keep going,” said Jermaine.
“We won our last league game against Bristol City so we wanted to keep going and we did that.
“Winning is the best thing and we don’t want to lose again.
“We want to keep winning and getting out confidence up and that is what is happening.
“The confidence is definitely coming back.
“In training we are working harder, we are playing well and we look more like a goal threat.
“The intensity in training has risen.
“We did a stats session last week and we saw that the intensity has been raised quite a bit.
“Teams are starting to be a bit more scared of us.”
Jermaine notched his third goal of the season and his second in as many games in Tuesday’s local derby win.
The midfielder has been given a free role under new Development Squad manager Lee Carsley and that is something Jermaine said has given him a good confidence boost.
“Lee has given me more freedom and he is telling me to just go and express myself,” said Jermaine.
“I want to go and get goals into my game.
“Lee has a lot of faith in me and I have to believe more in myself that I can do it as well.
“Lee has done a lot in his career.
“We all know what he has done so him having that belief in me should only make me a better player.”
