James Tarkowski gave his post match thoughts on the 3-1 defeat to Reading, who having scored two first half goals, finished the tie off in added on time with a penalty from Nick Blackman despite Lasse Vibe's second half strike for Brentford.
“I don’t think we can really say we deserved something from the game,” said James. “The first half was very poor for us. We weren’t up to the standards we set ourselves. I think there’s only David Button that can come off the pitch [with pride]. He really kept us in the game.
“Second half we got the goal back and we looked like we were on the front foot and playing well. We can’t really complain at the result, we’ve just got to analyse our performance and go from there. There are a lot of new faces, plus the coaching staff, still looking to learn about each other so we can’t be too down about it.”
James and his team mates will now have two weeks to mull over the defeat, due to the international break, with their next league game at Leeds United on 12 September.
“You always like to finish on a positive,” said James. “There’s a little rest for us now, we had a tough pre-season [and a] tough few weeks. We can come back ready for the next game.”
