Jake Reeves said he feels “fine” after having to leave the field at Stamford Bridge during Brentford’s FA Cup with Budweiser Fourth Round Replay against Chelsea with a head injury.
The midfield player had been introduced as a second half substitute in the match but was taken out by David Luiz.
The Chelsea defensive midfield player smashed his shoulder in to Jake’s face and the Brentford man was unsteady on his feet.
He was taken off by the Brentford medical team but returned to sit on the bench within ten minutes and is now fully recovered.
Jake played 90 minutes for Brentford’s Development Squad in a 2-0 win over Bristol City yesterday and spoke to Bees Player after the match.
“I feel fine,” he said.
“I was alright about ten minutes after and was sitting on the bench.
“I remember passing it off to Clayton Donaldson and a big shoulder smashed me straight in the face, that’s it.
“The medical team just took me off, there was no talking.
“You could tell I wasn’t happy to come off.
“I was pushing the physios off, which wasn’t very clever, but I didn’t know what I was doing at the time.”
Jake said he was pleased Manager Uwe Rösler had faith to put him on in a game against the current FA Cup and UEFA Champions League holders, albeit Brentford were well behind at the time.
Jake said he wanted to play more First Team games but with the form of the Brentford midfield he understood it was hard to get a chance.
“It was nice that the gaffer had faith in me to go on,” he said.
“My performances in training and in these games have always been to the standard where I think I can push for a First Team place.
“But the lads have done so well so far it is hard to get in.
“I don’t expect that to change.
“I can only do what I can do.
“If the gaffer puts me in I will have to take my chance when it comes.”
Jake played in a central midfield role in the 2-0 Development Squad win over Bristol City.
Brentford took an early lead as Curtis Jones scored an own goal and Charlie Adams, hailed by Jake after the game, added the second.
Jake said Brentford were professional seeing the game out after half time but they could have played slightly better in the second 45.
“I was pleased,” he said.
“We could have kept the ball a bit better in the second half but we didn’t think they had enough to come at us.
“Especially when we had a 2-0 lead.
“We saw the game out.
“It was professional from the lads.
“They had a couple of quick players up front and we had to sort that out in the early stages.
“Once we got the first goal, that was it.
“They didn’t seem to have anything after that.
“I haven’t seen many defences or midfields at this level that can cope with Charlie Adams.
“He is like a little Lionel Messi.”
