Captain Jake Bidwell gave his thoughts after Brentford lost 2-1 to Sheffield Wednesday to a late goal by Lucas João.
“We were the better side before the sending off,” said Jake. “I don’t think it was one. I’m stood right in the lad’s way when he was about to shoot so that goes against us.
“We were still the better team by far I thought, with ten men. It was a bit of misfortune – it bounces off Jack’s back, there’s not a lot he could do so it’s a tough one to take but something to build on with the spirit and the performance.”
Alan Judge scored a superb equaliser for Brentford, and the skipper affirmed that the Irishman was keen to beat his goalscoring total from last season.
“That’s something Judgey is capable of,” said Jake. “I know last season he was disappointed with his goal tally but he’s got the quality to do that so hopefully we’ll see more of it this season.”
Jake had to two chances to break his goalscoring duck for Brentford, one in either half, with the 22-year-old confident that he will be on the score sheet soon.
“It was a difficult chance in the first half,” said Jake. “I wasn’t expecting to get on the end of that one; I thought the goalkeeper was going to come and clatter me in the second half but I’d like to think the goal’s coming sooner or later. It’s frustrating; I think I’ve had a chance in nearly every game so far [this season]. On the positive side I’m getting into positions to get a chance but hopefully once one comes a couple more will follow it.”
