Jack Bonham said he was delighted to sign a new long-term Brentford contract.
The goalkeeper signed the new deal on Friday, 24 hours before appearing for The Bees in an FA Cup defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.
The 21-year-old joined Brentford in the summer of 2013 after being released by Watford and has now signed a new deal to keep him at Griffin Park until 2018.
Jack has established himself as second-choice goalkeeper at Brentford this season, behind David Button, and has featured in every match day squad since the end of August.
He made his fourth Brentford appearance against Brighton but could do little with two late goals that gave the visitors the win at Griffin Park.
“I am delighted,” said Jack, speaking to Bees Player on Friday.
“It was a no brainer for me in terms of whether to sign or not.
“I am really happy to be here, the Club is going places and I am delighted to be part of it.
“I had an inkling a contract was going to be offered.
“I just had to keep working hard and doing what I was doing.
Jack has played eight games for Brentford’s Development Squad in the Under-21 Professional Development League this term but had not made a First Team appearance since September 2013 and not made a start since August 2013.
He had a loan spell at Calor League Premier Division Arlesey Town last season and played 19 games.
“It can be hard to prove yourself,” said Jack.
“You are not in the limelight and not playing as many games as you want to be playing.
“When you get a chance you have to take it and play as well as you can.
“You also have to train as well as you can every day to prove you are good enough.
“Training gives me a chance to show what I can do.
“The better training is the better the team gets and I get.”
Jack thanks Goalkeeper Coach Simon Royce for his help since he arrives at Brentford.
He also said he learns from Brentford’s other goalkeepers – Button and Richard Lee, who also played for Watford.
Lee is to retire at the end of the season and Jack said he would be missed.
“The goalkeeper group is great,” said Jack.
“Simon Royce has done wonders for me over the past 18 months and I can’t thank him enough.
“I have known Richard from when I was at Watford, he has helped me through.
“David Button is playing in the First Team and he is someone to look up to.
“I have to be above his level to get a chance.
“We are a close group and Richard will be missed, he is someone I turn to when things have not gone well.”
Jack said he wanted to try and push Button for his place and take his chance when there was an opportunity to play games.
He added an opportunity to go out on loan may aid his development.
“I want to keep pushing David as number one and try to get a chance to play,” said Jack.
“If I can play in cup games I will try to do as well as I can.
“I might get a chance to go out on loan to get games and experience.
“I need games and haven’t had a massive amount.
“I feel that if needed I can step in now but going out on loan will give me the best chance to develop my career.”
Jack joined The Bees when they had just finished third in League One and lost in the Play-Off Final.
He has been part of a squad that won promotion last season and now sits sixth in the Sky Bet Championship.
“It has been really good here,” said Jack.
“To be part of a team that got promoted was brilliant.
“That is what you want.
“I can see myself as part of the team this year; it has been a great 18 months.”
