Kyjuon Marsh-Brown said he was “shocked” to receive his first full international call-up.
The Youth Team winger was called up to the Antigua and Barbuda squad for a training camp prior to the start of their 2018 World Cup qualification campaign.
The 17-year-old will fly out to join the squad later this month and will spend two weeks with the group.
Kyjuon qualifies through his grandparents and his brother Keanu has also been called up.
He said it was a great feeling.
“I was shocked when I heard,” said the teenager, speaking to Bees Player yesterday.
“I hadn’t heard there was a chance before and didn’t know they were interested in me.
“I qualify through my grandparents and my brother Keanu has been called up as well.
“It’s a great feeling and hopefully we can go over together.”
Kyjuon has lots of international options if his career progresses but said it was great that any nation thought he was at that level already.
“I can play for Scotland, Portugal, Brazil or Jamaica,” he said.
“It is great to know that someone wants you to play international football for them.
“It is a great feeling.
“I was wondering where they had seen me but it was great to know they had watched me and liked the way I played.”
Kyjuon has played 15 Under-18 Professional Development League Two South games this season, as The Bees have moved clear at the top of the table, scoring two goals.
He said he had injuries at the start of the season but was now full of confidence.
“My season has gone well,” said Kyjuon.
“I had some injuries at the start but I have come back stronger and want to keep pushing on.
“I want to focus on the games we have coming and help us win the league.
“The season has been better than I hoped.
“I wasn’t sure how I would go but I am playing games and getting more confident.
“I need to keep pushing on.”
Brentford’s Youth Team play Cardiff City this morning in their latest match.
A win will take them a step closer to the title.
“We play Cardiff tomorrow,” said Kyjuon.
“We are playing at home, they have to come here and we don’t want them to have a look in.
“We have to smash them.
“Confidence is really high.
“The boys are happy and it is showing in our matches.”
As well as international recognition, Kyjuon has been called up to Brentford’s Development Squad.
He said being involved in the Under-21 group also drove him on.
“It was great to be in the Under-21 match day squad,” said Kyjuon.
“It makes me push on more.
“I want to try and get a start in the Under-21s and maybe get in the First Team soon.
“I don’t know what will happen next, I will keep working hard, get my head down and push on.”
