Martin Taylor, on loan from Sheffield Wednesday, scored his second goal in three games to seal Brentford’s victory at Sixfields with a 2-0 victory against Coventry City.
“I think the boys did really well,” said Martin.
“It was a good test today for us, we performed well against Leyton Orient on Monday, but we were disappointed with the result, so it was a great opportunity for us to come and show what we’re really made of, and I thought we did that for the full 90 minutes.
“It would be easy to feel down; you get yourself back up again, and it was a real test of character, and we came through it well.”
Martin was also pleased that it was the first clean sheet in the three games he’s played in so far for Brentford.
“It’s great, obviously we’ve conceded a few goals since I’ve been in, and the game before we conceded a few too,” said Martin.
“So we were desperate for that really, just to prove that, and show other teams we’re solid as well; it’s important, and a great result to get a clean sheet today.”
“We restricted them, they wanted to play out from the back, build it up, and apart from the first ten minutes when we let them do it, the forwards and midfield players got to grips with it, they started knocking it long and we started winning it – that was our game plan.
“When we had the ball, we were always going to be dangerous, we proved so even more in the second half that we had a number of opportunities.
The defender collected his second goal in Brentford colours, this time with a glancing header from a Sam Saunders cross.
“It was the second phase on the corner, and you often get a little bit more room, get away from your man,” said Martin.
“It was a great ball in the box, and I just had to get the slightest touch on it, and fortunately I did.
“It was a great time to score, I think it deflated them – you could see from the kick-off that they didn’t really have any belief they were going to get back into it, and then it was all our chances after that.”
Martin’s initial spell on loan ends early next month, with the 33-year-old admitting he’s happy at Griffin Park.
”I’m not sure of the situation, but all I can say is that I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far.”
