Louis Hutton said he was “really, really happy” to have signed a Brentford FC Development Squad contract.
The 19-year-old midfield player signed a deal to keep him at Griffin Park until the summer of 2015 as part of the Under-21 squad yesterday after a successful trial.
Louis was in Leeds United’s Academy until the age of 14 and then left to join Manchester City.
He played four games for England’s Under-17 side in 2010, helping to win a Nordic tournament in Finland, and has also represented his country at Under-16 level.
He agreed a termination of his Manchester City contract last week and signed formally for The Bees after playing two Under-21 Professional Development League Two South games for the Development Squad.
Louis said he was told Brentford wanted to sign him after his first 90 minutes, against Swansea City, and was pleased to be at a club that was “going places” and using young players to do it.
“I am really, really happy,” he said.
“Brentford is a club that is going places.
“We are top of the league at the moment and looking to use youth players to progress further.
“I have been here about two weeks.
“We had one match where I played about 20 minutes and another against Swansea where I played the full game.
“They told me straight after that they would like to sign me.
“I am happy.
“I wasn’t expecting a decision straight after one game but I won’t complain.”
Louis said the players and staff at Brentford have welcomed him in to the Club.
He explained he spent more than four years at Manchester City but was not getting a chance at Under-21 level.
After discussion with City’s Elite Development Squad Manager Patrick Vieira he decided to leave and, following a short trial at Leeds, came to Brentford.
“Everyone has been really good with me,” he said.
“They have been friendly and welcomed me in to the Club.
“The Training Ground has taken a bit of a battering from the weather but training has been really good so far.
“I have really enjoyed it.
“I was at Manchester City for four and a half seasons and had a great time.
“I have no complaints about my time there, it was really good.
“I wasn’t getting opportunities there in the Under-21 side.
“I had a meeting with Patrick Vieira, the manager, and we decided it wasn’t the place for me.
“I moved on but don’t have a bad word to say.
“I went back to Leeds on trial but didn’t play any matches and it was straight to Brentford.”
Louis said he did not want to play for a long ball team and thought Brentford’s style and philosophy would suit him.
“I am a central midfield player,” he said.
“I like to think I can pass it.
“I try to be a passer of the ball.
“When I decided to leave Manchester City, the main focus was to find a club that suited me.
“There is no point me playing in a route one team; I’d have no impact on the game.
“Brentford’s philosophy is to pass it and I think that suits me.”
Louis said ultimately he wanted to play for Brentford’s First Team and felt the 18 month contract would give him a chance to do that.
“This deal was appealing for me,” he said.
“I didn’t just want a contract until the end of the season.
“I haven’t played for a few months and it takes a while to get in to it.
“This deal gives me time to get my teeth in to it and try to make an impact.
“I want to play as many Under-21 matches as I can towards the end of this season.
“Then I want to try and kick on, make an impact and try and get in the First Team.”
